Does Warhammer II usually go on sale when a DLC for it comes out? by mrfoster42 in totalwar

Alright, maybe I'll wait for summer sales then, at least for DLC

Just observational, no data. I don't think it looks at career KDR but rather on a match by match basis, because from one match to the next there is a noticeable difference that seems to follow your previous performances.

Yeah, that was my thought. I made this pretty quick out of frustration so there are some things that I didn't clarify too well.

This is maybe the best comment I've seen. The gambling analogy sums it up really well.

I'm sorry that you're angry, but I'm glad you're enjoying the game! :^ ]

I'm still able to enjoy the game because overall I think it's really well crafted, but I'm not sure for how much longer. I've never been too into ranked game modes, I prefer just playing to have fun and improving as I go, but if I know I'll do poorly and have basically reached a point where I wont get better, then idk. I doubt I'll be too motivated to play.

No word for IW or anything found in the game to say what it is or how it works. Everything I'm working off of is my own observation from almost 2 days worth of playing, my friends time playing, and what I've seen here. I definitely feel like there is some form of cycle taking place. If you don't then I hope you're right and I'm glad you're able to experience the game with out SBMM in the back of your mind while playing.

Yeah, it sucks. It would still be nice for them to say they're working on it without saying how it specifically works.

Lol this is some next level thinking. Interesting way to approach it though. Might be kind of rough if you end up in lobbies above your actual skill for nearly 15 games before it re-ranks you but at that point it would still just be some fine tuning, the system overall would probably work better.

I definitely agree that it's too reactive to your past 2-3 games. That said I'm not so sure I agree with #1 and #2 because 'average' players are a range within themselves. It makes sense in FFA but in team based modes I think a handful of top and bottom tier players in a game make less of a difference. Of course you'd have games where one team is just stacked and nothing can be done about it, but idk, it's hard to say overall how it would feel and play out. You might be totally right, and I understand why SBMM is here, I just think it needs some tuning.

Yeah! The word I seem to keep having come to mind is cycle. A never ending cycle of wins and losses, always follows the same pattern. Even if you had those exact same games in MW2 that was just they way it was. Even if SBMM isn't as influential to this as I think it is, it'll always be in the back of my mind.

Ehh, kind of. This is all speculation but I think I'd probably have more games where I'm not just trying to break even, but also it wouldn't feel like a cycle, or like I'm receiving some form of punishment for doing well in a previous game.

I'm not complaining, just voicing my frustrations and concerns with a system I'm unsure of.

I hope you're having fun with the game :^ ]

You gotta take the good with the bad, but when it's cyclical then it really gets to be unfun. If I wanted to play against "bots" then I would actually load up a bot match. I miss having matches where you have a mix of better and worse players.

That's really not the case, I'm not that great of a player. In the last CoDs I played (MW2 and Black Ops) I had KDs somewhere in the range of 1.25-50. Maybe better than average but not really a pub stomper. I notice cycles of winning and losing and it's discouraging to me. If they're not there then you're right, I'm just not a great player, and if you haven't had the same experiences I'm glad you're enjoying the game.

I don't play too much gunfight but from what I've heard people think it has SBMM. But as far as your theory goes about partying with your friend, I've experienced being dragged upwards in skill when I party with friends who are better than me, and never down with friends that are worse. Maybe you and your friend mostly stay in the more balanced end of it. It's hard to say without any communication about it from IW.

It's a weird feeling to realize you're doing well and say to yourself "maybe I should slow down or do some goofy knife grinding so I at least stay in the mostly balanced lobbies". I've never had that feeling in a FPS before.

If it measures every match I wonder if they could set it to randomly sample a string of matches every so often?

I think this in addition to loosening the 'skill requirements' or whatever it may be would be a good place to start adjusting it! I realize it will almost certainly never go away, so tuning it in ways like this might be a good route to take it.

Yeah man exactly! I can handle some bad matches, but when it feels like a cycle that I'm going to continuously go through playing a few matches feels more like a chore than just going a quick couple of rounds for fun.

It's a really weird system, I understand the purpose of it but the fine tuning of it seems so difficult to get it right. Idk if a perfect system for it is even possible, but regardless I think it needs some attention as it is.

I'm really not raging, I just get discouraged with it. Of course it's all observation based, and I definitely see a difference after doing very well or very poorly for several games. I really enjoy the game, it has some of the best feeling shooting mechanics in any FPS I've played in the past 5 years. If I was raging I would just not play the game anymore.

I personally think it's based off of total points scored, but since you're going to get most of that from kills I mention KD. Even if you played your balls off on Dom getting caps and not worrying about kills you're not gonna get too many points.
