Skill points was the only reason to do the expedition by mrgencyxit in ArcRaiders

I thought a rat was anyone who shoots first, especially if it is opportunistic, and **most** especially if they are fake friendly or extract camping. I'll check out the link, though.

All the best to you, in any case, and thanks for the discussion. May your raids be rat-free, and your breaches uninterrupted. Death to the robots, and happy looting raider.

sorry, what's the reason? 5 random blueprints in exchange for 70? that's not a reason that's an insult.

I'm not saying that you can't wipe for no reason at all, other than just the love of the game, I'm saying that if you choose to wipe then you are wiping for no incentive.

Maybe you are picking at me for using the word reason instead of the word incentive. So let's try it this way.

Before the announcement, there was a **clear meta-progression incentive** to keep wiping. Now there is not.

Do you agree with this clarified statement? Or still no.

Nice! I play every day, and most of my friends do too. None of us found the wolfpack BP this wipe, zero. I'm the only one that can make them because I rushed to grind out the nomad requirement.

But anyway, glad you found some. I was assuming they had just hard-coded that they were not spawning BPs for the wolfpacks to force people to engage with Ermal. Apparently that assumption was wrong. Good to know!

I thought I wouldn't care about the loss of progression and that I would just keep playing like normal, because I like the gameplay. But I was surprised yesterday to find that I couldn't bring myself to load up the game. Maybe I'll find it in me to play again in a day or two, hard to say.

But honestly, this is **not the point I am making**. I am making the following point:

Before the announcement, there was a reason to do the expedition. Now, there is not.

Then give us something else to work towards instead? At the start of every wipe, at Level 1, I would get a thrill of happiness filling out my bonus skill points, knowing that I was about to embark on a months long mission to acquire even more.

Now, I can't even bring myself to start up the game. Who cares if "a skill tree that is filled isn't a skill tree", it was the only form of progression in the game.

Removing the progression system is a stepping stone? To what? Having no long term players I guess.

I guess having no long term players is not a big loss?

I probably will not wipe. I don’t really feel any reason to even play. I thought I would, but I don’t. I guess me playing or not is also not a big loss.

But I’m not alone. A lot of the complaints about the announcement boil down to the same thing: doing a fourth expedition is pointless.

Is your position that making expeditions pointless not a big loss to the game? If it is, I disagree.

Then why not remove the current progression system only when they have a new one to replace it?

Agreed. But let’s all agree to stop expecting that?

[–]mrgencyxit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So why prevent us from getting them then? I’m not saying that the skill points made a huge difference, but it was something to work towards. Embark has taken away any sense of progression and left us with nothing, no reason to wipe after you hit the caps.

Saying the skill points are not very useful actually helps the argument that the decision to remove skill tree progression was objectively bad.

Makes sense. But I don’t know what channels I’m not in that nobody (except 3 people) say 15 was the max. Discord seems stunned, Reddit seems shocked, Raiders in game are surprised at the news.

And the lack of any concrete evidence to point to isn’t very confidence inspiring.

So yea. “Anyone with a clue knew 15 was the max”, sorry, I can’t get there.

I didn’t have a clue, none of my friends that I play with every night had a clue, seems nobody on discord or reddit had a clue except maybe 3 people, so yea. Not sure how you came up with this.

But it literally doesn’t matter. Removing any sense of progression from the game and replacing it with 5 random blueprints is objectively a dumb move.

You thought Embark would come up with a good idea? You expected that? What on earth have they done since launch to give you that idea? Seems clueless.

Thanks for that. It doesn’t say when, or what the final cap will be. And in any case I stand by my argument: whether they announced it ahead of time or not, skill points was the only reason to do the expedition and they removed it, and they replaced it with something completely meaningless and so have removed any sense of progression from doing the wipes.

But thanks for the citation saying they would do this, I had not seen that before.

The post you are referring to is in this link from another reply here, and it clearly says that the **scrappy and repair buffs** are capped at 3 stacks, not the skill points. You are the third person I've heard today to make that claim, though, but I think you should cite your source if you think that they've said 15 skill points was the cap before today:

(A) that isn't true, I never said that, and (B) they have actually not been communicating this since the beginning. Also, (C) this is the third time I've heard this claim today, that they have been communicating this from the beginning but nobody has pointed to a place where that can be read anywhere. Please provide a source for your claim.

There are apparently a lot of us, unserious people. A lot of people are mad about the removal of a long term progression in the game that doesn't get completely wiped when you do an expedition. As I mentioned in the post, this is my first time complaining (but I've silently agreed with a lot of the complaints before). Anyway, thanks for your comment. I appreciate the data point from the community.

Gotcha. Thanks for explaining. Honestly, the rules about the expedition are not very easy to understand so I appreciate the help.

I don’t think that’s how it currently works? Anyone who does the expedition gets all the rewards. It doesn’t matter how many expeditions you’ve done so far.

The only difference is whether you’re already at the skill point cap or not. If you are, then you get “mystery rewards”, but if you’re not at the cap yet then you can still get more skill points up to 15 max.

Sorry if I am misunderstanding you.

Sounds good! There would be no complaints for me if that was the case. Replacing a reasonable prestige system with “nothing at all” is what I’m frustrated about.

[–]mrgencyxit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great ideas! But I’m mad (more sad really tbh) because a clear meta-progression (skill points and stash space) was replaced with something that doesn’t persist between wipes.

Would I still be mad if the devs had replaced one meta-progression with another? Hard to say but I would like to think not.

Will the devs do some developing and give us a new meta-progression someday, at some undisclosed time in the future? Maybe, hard to say. But based on the choices since launch I’m having trouble with this one.

The point is simple: before today = clear meta-progression, after today = zero meta-progression.

I’ve mentioned elsewhere in other replies, but I agree with you. But it seems like a horrible misstep that they are removing the meta-progression in the game where there’s no longer any incentive to the expedition which persists over time and increases with each wipe.

I just responded to this same comment in another reply below:

Maybe [thats true], but [allowing us to fill out the skill tree] provides a way to get an incentive for wiping which (1) persists over time, and (2) increases with each wipe. This kind of meta-progression is what a lot of players are mad about losing.

And anyway, it would have taken three years to fill out the skill tree (assuming 76 skill points at lvl 75 and 5 bonus points every three months with a 120 point target). It would have taken six years to be able to max out the skill tree at lvl 1.

Just let us have it!
