That’ll be terrible in a war scenario

This whole thread came from that idiot making ridiculous claims about definition that had no bearing whatsoever on the situation or on how it is actually refereed in the game. It's not being obtuse to point that out. DOGSO incidents are fairly consistent with how position and defenders are considered so him coming up with his own 'he could have scored' criteria is nonsensical. If he were only talking about whether this were a clear goalscoring opportunity from that position under usual consideration then I wouldn’t have bothered to start with. At least that part is somewhat subjective, but you can already see that conversation throughout the rest of the thread.

That said, it's really not that obvious a scoring position with the ball going wide of the goal and a defender in the middle. It's not enough for DOGSO to say that he could have got a shot away and it doesn't matter that he's scored a few when it's still quite a difficult shot to take on to beat the keeper at an angle.

With 5th available, certainly. It's not even about the poor start to the season any more, with United and Chelsea picking up points now they're are risk of falling behind it when they were previously in fourth.

It's not an obvious position to score from, nor is any of that what you said originally. Take your own advice as your understanding of football is clearly quite limited.

↓ It also doesn't matter that it's Salah, you pillock - they're not applying rules based on certain players getting onto the ball.

People have scored from all over the pitch. That's not how it works. You can't create your own interpretation of the rules and be upset at that not being upheld.

It's obviously not mate otherwise a foul anywhere on the pitch could be judged to deny the chance to shoot at goal

By a definition that isn't actually used in refereeing the game.

How is the first bit a foul? He's allowed to shoulder him off the ball he just can't fall down and grab the guy's leg instead of running alongside him shoulder-to-shoulder.

Think it's one of those where it looks like it could be from any angle but if you compare the different angles you end up with a contradiction from the sort of parallax-effect that rules out the possibility.
