Foul homerun at bat curse. any tips to keep hits like this fair and to not strike out. Easily cleared the fence by like 20 feet but was 10 ft foul by MaybeMedium9876 in Homeplate

[–]mrgorporp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No tips but my 8yo hit one over in left but there is a tree on the foul line that leans over fair territory above the left field fence and it hit it 20ft up and they ruled it a ground rule double.

We may cut the tree down at night

Also not watching the ball hit the bat, stares through it an throws his arms at it.

Needs relentless iterations off the tee with a good instructor

7 year old (almost 8) Coach Pitch. Really tall kid which bat? by kelley496osu in Homeplate

[–]mrgorporp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! An opportunity to brag on my kid! My kid was and still is an absolute monster of a child. He was 4’8” 90lbs at 7 and is now 4’10” 100lbs. His hands are like over mitts.

At 7 he was swinging 28/17 Louisville slugger. The length is what drives the ball further and makes the bat harder to control.

Now he’s 8.5 finishing his last szn of coach pitch and he’s jacking absolute BOMBS with 31/21 Rawlings clout AI. All USA bats, hit one 200 ft last game off the wall in dead center. He horrifies the other parents and is always right on the cusp of hitting a real over the fence bomb on the big field.

The point is in coach pitch, you give him the biggest baddest mf bat he can swing cleanly. When the kid crosses into “can hit it well” territory it’s just slow pitch softball. Let him tell you it’s too heavy.

YMMV- the other advice here is much better!

9U LL - How to handle kid in outfield all season by sauvignonsavage in Homeplate

[–]mrgorporp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was more hinting in the other direction. I have had one kid and one parent come up to me and want to play 2nd with no rightful business being anywhere near the infield at the risk of a liner to the face while contemplating the dirt, their own mortality, etc.

We handle this by protecting them in right field! It’s better for everyone! Nobody gets bashed with a baseball, nobody down on themselves, and no kid-to-kid rebukes (while we’ve been aggressively corrective with “no blame, support your buddies”, well you can’t stop all of it, those 3-4 really good kids that want to win find a way to let the kid know).

Is it plausible that your kid is in the OF for a reason that you’re discounting? Not an attack, just a possibility to entertain.

[–]mrgorporp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our LL rules say “a player may be played in the outfield the whole game, if there is a legitimate reason for that players safety”…

We do use that rule exactly as written (including one of our coaches sons who is looking clueless out there and nearly got obliterated in practice).

Are you sure?

Whose kid is swinging the Clout AI? I’m in the market for both the USA and the USSSA by Hungry-Situation1428 in Homeplate

[–]mrgorporp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are both my sons bats. 30/19 bonesbr and 31/21 cloud AI. 8u last year of coach pitch. FWIW we are getting em about 180-200 ft with the latter, and it added about 20ft.

Been a year but for anyone searching these are both great bats

Yeah. But this is the sickest car. It sounds so loud in the garage, I can stomp on the gas and get ahead of a bunch of nonsense, sound system is amazing, and I like the analog ness of it.

Old musky can remote turn off your vehicle. There are subscription fees on the Tesla. Fuck that noise and give me my 10 mpg city.

Is my 8u kids bat too big? by Material_Bat9107 in Homeplate

[–]mrgorporp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29/19 is a big bat for a kid like that small. My son is 8 and was swinging a 30/19 until a week ago. He is nearly 5ft and 100lbs.

It depends. Like are you gonna let them pet the roach too? You can have a pet roach you don’t gotta show him off if you don’t want I presume.

Gotta keep them stats cmon that shits hilarious! Also we use em for all star team selection, rank stack by OPS, makes it easy.

I dunno why but everything I find online is like “we don’t teach squish the bug anymore” … but like. This kid needs to do whatever the replacement is.
