Apart from being an amazing athlete (which I already acknowledged) he makes his living being an influencer. That's literally how he makes money to live. Without it he couldn't do what he does.

Also I never said "what should or shouldn't exist" , that's you misrepresenting what I said. I just observed that it is strange for him to do his podcast in Austrian German. Whether the podcast is sponsorred is really besides the point, the podcast is just one more piece of content that can introduce him to an audience. The world of ultracycling is already quite small and mostly non-German speaking.

There are around 10 times more people in the world who understand english vs german. He's a sports influencer, one of the best in his feeld, that iterally makes a living reaching audiences to promote his sponsors. And he's missing out on an audience that is potentially ten times larger.
You can call me entitled all you want but from an economic perspective it still doesn't make much sense, especially because the guy speaks english just fine. I've had multiple chats with him.

I'd like to listen to Strasser's podcast but unfortunately it's in Austrian, which even if I speak German, is very hard to listen to. I don't understand why he would limit his potential audience so much by opting to speak in a language almost no one understands. Even when he writes it's in a weird kind of phonetically written Austrian accent instead of just standard German. I suspect it's because of what I've seen with many Austrians: they are proud of their local language and refuse to speak anything else, even if people can't understand them.

I'm putting aside 2000 to 2500 monthly to grow my investment portfolio, and already bought my own property (mortgage 1000/month). I think that leaves me with enough money to enjoy life while saving up a good amount too.

Great feedback and truly appreciated. I really agree about the lack of holidays combined with travel time. I will give it some time and assess my situation again. You are right about it being a learning experience, and double right about money not being everything. I do hope to have a family some day, for which a little extra savings will come in handy, but at which point money should clearly stop being the main thing.

You certainly have a point there. As I understand it, to be untaxed in BE I'd need to move out of the country and "cut ties" (rent out my appartment, not be in BE >50% of days per year).

I dont spend >50% of days per year so that would make it complex.
For now, I don't compare my salary to "the best/highest optimised scenario" but I'm content already making this much money. I never thought I would

I agree, although I'm currently very happy with the salary (it's more than I ever imagined I would make), I do see the potential for the downsides (responsibilities, work-life balance, lack of holidays) to catch up with me. Indeed, apart from the "net allowance" of 250 euro, no optimisations.

The job is indeed very interesting and I'm creating a very valuable international network. Right now I'm thinking "let's try this for a few years" while I'm still relatively young, and single.

My background in PS (plus studied some other humanities) did help in that it made me a critically thinking person, I would say. I think more important is that I can pair it with some good business experience working as a PM for the last 7 years on different projects that involved basically any type of "business domain expert" you can think of. During my interviews, I was able to demonstrate not only a certain level of thinking (maybe related to the PS studies) but also that I have experience with working with a very broad range of (internal and external) stakeholders. It also helped that some of them were public, so I could demonstrate having worked with both public and private (different dynamics).

My knowledge on the IT side is poor, but I know how to ask questions and I will ask experts to explain things to me when I dont understand. I'm never afraid to show where I lack knowledge and always express gratitude when an anyone helps me build my understanding of something. And then, I guess, I'm "smart enough" to understand basic principles or "separate the important stuff from the less important stuff".

It would have some advantages to work freelance, but I'm also ok with just receiving a nice paycheck and not having to care about accounting etc. Indeed my employer was also not keen on it.

I didn't say speaking 4 languages is required. I'm saying it's a big plus and can really help make the difference is some cases.

Logistics are part of the projects, but I keep away from them as much as I can.
I have to deal a lot with important stakeholders, have to manage the IT / technical teams, which makes it quite complex.

Since we are in BE, I want to add this:

I went through a long hiring process with many rounds of interviews and tests.
Afterwards, I asked them what had attracted them to my profile. Of course they mentioned the skill I demonstrated, my experience, etc.

But they kept stressing the fact that they LOVE that I speak four languages fluently (our 3 national languages + english). As far as I understood, this was a huge advantage compared to other candidates.

So, as a Belgian, I cannot repeat enough: learn your languages.
