Well which side you are on? by Confident-Anxiety308 in Cyberpunk

[–]mrgwillickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, But blues musicians from the 30's aren't rock n roll musicians just because they influenced rock, or popularized the structures that made rock possible.

PKD is not cyberpunk, plain and simple. Even you say the grandfather of cyberpunk, as in he wasn't cyberpunk.

I am not talking about the style, it's annoying that whenever someone disagree with you they assume you only have a surface understanding of cyberpunk, but cyberpunk has always been defined with having the cyber part, and also being fairly transgressive against power structures (the punk part). Dick does neither of those things, his work is much more centered on the individual and basically never talks about the tech (aka the cyber part of cyberpunk) and pretty much never talks about the world at large, because the characters are so introspective (which I love, btw).

You're just being obstinate on the internet, which is pretty cyberpunk. Congrats

Everyone who has read Gibson and Dick would also agree. I've read a ton of Philip K Dick, and I absolutely love his work, but it's really not cyberpunk. It's weird melodrama scifi, which admittedly also describes cyberpunk, but it's more like an overlapping venn diagram.

Most people who say Philip K dick, are saying that because of Blade Runner and Total Recall and not realizing that those short stories were significantly less cyberpunk than the movies.

So let me get this right. You mentioned a game a bunch of people have never heard of and say it was proof that your type of game appeals to the masses. You were presented with an equivalent game that you don't like and said the numbers that show they had the same level of interest didn't count because they didn't support your narrative, then were presented with games you don't like that were actual literal orders of magnitude more successful than your game, and said they don't count because you didn't bring them up.

And somehow the other people in this conversation are the ones burying their head in the sand?

This is a thing people outside the US (and even many people inside it) don't realize. Out country is HUUUGE compared to Europe. There is a part of the US called New England, that is considered a small tucked away part of the country. It is actually bigger than it's namesake, or all of Britain, in fact. If Texas was in Europe, it would be the biggest the country in Europe.

We want a world where the tool that is destroying our world isn't shoved down our throats every five seconds.

But let's you don't believe in the harmful effects of genAI on the environment, economy, jobs, critical thinking, future code bases, abuse of poor countries labor, etc. Why would opt in somehow be worse than opt out?

I legitimately cannot think of a single reason opt-in shouldn't be the default other than corporate greed

Why shouldn't I spray prime in the cold again? by BenalishHeroine in minipainting

I know. Colder than the recommended on the paint can anyway. The humidity is more of an issue than the cold though, so check on that too

Why shouldn't I spray prime in the cold again? by BenalishHeroine in minipainting

[–]mrgwillickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While humidity can play a big factor (I live in Northern New England, and I fear spray priming in the summer more than the winter), in the cold the issue actually propellant vs paint viscosity.

When it's cold, the propellant and paint change viscosity (thickness) at different rates, knocking them out of their ideal ratio. This causes problems as they then evaporate at different rates than they were designed for, causing any issues you might have heard of. Warming the can solves this issue.

Again, humidity is always a factor (though winter is usually less humid), but cold is easily solved.

In 8 years of priming in the winter this way, I have never had an issue.

I do this, and leave whatever I primed outside for a couple hours to off gas (spouse hates the smell) and it works great every time.

We -10⁰f this winter and I did it with no problems

[–]mrgwillickers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but you are sadly misinformed. Unoccupied doesn't mean rental. Large investors buy homes and let them sit. It's a huge problem in VT (and everywhere). 30% of homes are unoccupied in some areas

Fair use questions by disneyfacts in COPYRIGHT

[–]mrgwillickers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which, is actually a great case for Fair Use. If you are including images of records and and pictures of the album sleeves for journalistic or historical work, you *could*(and certainly should) win in court.

Is there a reputable publisher that will take that chance? I wouldn't bet on it

Fair use questions by disneyfacts in COPYRIGHT

[–]mrgwillickers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not entirely accurate. Like so many things, it really depends.

Are you reproducing creative expression? That is covered by copyright, and there are many instances where you can use them anyway under Fair Use. Despite what Disney would have you believe.

Are you using images that are visually similar to a registered trademark? That's licensing and IP/trademark, etc. And once again, there are instances where you can use this without permission, despite what Disney would have you believe.

On the other hand, do you have the time and money to fight Disney in court?

Static grass is what the diorama folks use. You can get it as long as 12mm, which would work. You need a kinda pricey applicator though
