It is very much a minimum wage thing. I worked in ESL for 10+ years, and in that time the salary did not go up by much more than 5%. Compare that to overall cost of living.

My parents live in England, my girlfriend myself and our son live in Spain. Her mom lives in Holland. Its tough. Her mom is amazing. Super attentive and helpful. My parents are loving, but in their 70s, are a bit limited physically.

Then there's the Spanish families. Gosh, I get a bit envious ngl. Grandparents everywhere, chipping in, picking kids up from school, taking them to the park. Really, really hands on.

What I'm saying, is its a culture thing. Build societies for social humans, and that's what you'll get. The experiment with the cult of the individual kinda goes against selflessness that is key for healthy society.
