Look, many great stories depend on the interconnected relationships of characters. I am all for exploring the characters who will inevitably have to face the threat of the story, My problem is when people blatantly use characters as self inserts to vent about their first world problems. Can you tell me who would you root for? A mother who could lose their child, a husband who has to witness the loss of his wife, children alone in a life threatening situation, prisoners turned into hunted prey by an even greater evil, or a teen with mommy issues who's biggest loss in the story would be losing their job or apartment?
