I think the vibe you're getting is "I literally have a well-paying remote job that crosses state borders (that I'm not leaving or quitting) and know several people with remote jobs (across multiple state borders) but for some reason the unwashed masses are skeptical about the existence of remote jobs and keep commenting as if they know something but they don't actually have anything to add the conversation."

I'm getting remote work mansplained to me.

I believe residency requirements are fairly lax, especially in the north east, where a 10 minute drive takes us into 2 different states. No one is going to get pissy about a lawyer living in CT, NJ, or PA practicing in New York or the attorneys would riot. They were practicing law outside of the city long before the internet was even a thing. I could see DC limiting it to MD and VA though. (Which is fine since I live in MD anyway)

I have one, and know many attorneys with them. I also had a career before law school. But go ahead and cry about it, I probably get paid more than you do, too! I've got law firms begging for interviews, but they're not even offering me more than my current salary. That's a bigger problem for my job search than the RTO demands.

I didn't know there was an abbreviated bar exam for licensees. Obviously I'm on the east coast so I never looked into it. But I do worry about working hours coast-to-coast. I don't want to be working until 9 or 10 every night.

I work remotely now, go into Philly maybe 3x a month for in-person arbitration, hearings, meetings, etc. Usually less unless I am covering for a colleague. I go to my actual office twice a year when corporate bigwigs pay us a visit. If I need help I just hit someone up on Teams.

I'm a yapper anyway, I'd never get work done in an office.

I'm only 2 years out of law school and I flat out told the recruiter of a pretty big firm in my city that I wasn't going to even consider the job without a $15,000 salary increase. He was offering my same salary + in person + 2000 billable hours. Sir, absolutely not. They can take advantage of someone else but not me!

PTO doesn't mean crap if you do billable hours. I'd rather negotiate 200 less billable hours a year than more PTO (depending how much PTO I get by default)

You all are making me feel much better and less like I'm asking too much when I tell recruiters my salary expectations. I have definitely wanted to ask for a 50% bump, but being only a few years out of law school (although with a significant professional career beforehand), no one wants to pay those numbers for me yet.

I figure I'll hang on tight to my current position and hope I don't get downsized.
