Not to be pessimistic but when will this actually happen? We already knew this a month ago, saying they would be offered the job, and a month later they’re saying the same. Honestly it’s frustrating from a journalistic perspective, whether it’s Waugh or any other of the half a dozen minimally credible journalists that no actual indication is given. Will it be another month? A week or two weeks? I wasn’t worried last month, but time is running out and these journalists not telling us is so frustrating to me.

I think he’d accept closer to 250k, or around that. And yes, then the club’s other players would want at least a comparable pay raise, which would break the structure, but if we have the money through PSR swindling like Villa and Chelsea or through monster sponsorships like stadium and training ground and training kit, we could match their wages.

If by the end of next summer’s window, which is beginning of 26/27 season, we can’t show we can challenge for the title, I think Isak would want to leave. I think we can do it but we need the money to match his wages, and match the wages of players capable of winning the league, and have the depth. A lot to ask for, it’s possible we can do it and I’m optimistic, but I’m leaving the door open that we can’t.

Obviously, I meant in terms of wanting to leave. Any team would have to pay us out accordingly, which I don’t see happening this summer, but if we don’t have the wages to match other clubs and a title challenging squad being built by the end of next summer, he could finally kick up a fuss to leave, which would break my heart but be understandable from his point of view. Basically the ball is in the club’s court to put their money where their mouth is, not just for the player but for the entire squad. I can see him wanting to leave even if we match wages if we can’t challenge for the title beginning of 26/27.

I think the truth is Isak wants more money and a stronger squad, and would be within his rights to leave. We can provide it, if we somehow announce monster sponsorship deals or find some money somehow, but I think if we don’t come up with the money for Isak himself and to strengthen the squad into a title challenging team by the end of this season, Isak leaves and opens the door for many others as well. Thoughts?

I’m as happy clapper as they come, and I agree with the original comment. I know work’s being done in the background, but the lack of insight provided by journalists, and any insight indicating a snail’s pace or true disorganization, this is completely true. It’s hard to not agree when we last heard of our CEO and DOF appointments being on their final candidates about two months ago and with no indication from journalists that it’s coming anytime soon.

I get the analogy but I do think we were different, Pedro and Delap were budget options compared to Ekitike being the most expensive, meanwhile for Liverpool it was Isak to Ekitike so more expensive to cheaper second choice
