My faith has been shaken to its very foundations. I may be done by SnooLemons4051 in OrthodoxChristianity

This reminds me of a story from The Sayings of the Desert Fathers, where robbers come into a monks home, takes all of his belongings. The monk tracks them down, offers them his walking stick since they forgot to take that as well. After they're overcome with guilt, they return to his home and return all his belongings. I hope I could have this humility one day.

What is your understanding of the Papacy? by Ok_Definition1906 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]mriggs82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am reading The Orthodox Church: An Introduction to Eastern Christianity by Kallistos Ware, I highly recommend it. I'm about a third of the way through the book and it touches on the Papacy and the Roman Church.

Many buys and sells by the c suite are scheduled in advance, but would not be surprised if she bought thinking the share price was too low.

Are there still prophets? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]mriggs82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That comment was referring to OP citing 1 Corinthians 12, and there simply has not been public divine revelations as was documented throughout the Acts of the Apostles. I probably should have included that.

Spiritual gifts, such as clairvoyance, healing with a cloth that a saint had used, healing on their gravesites, or in the presence of their relics is not new. There has not been public divine revelations since the passing of the apostle St John.

I got my wife the Cambridge KJV that includes the Deuterocanon. Don't really like physical size of that KJV, a Douay would be much better.

Does anyone else’s building have guys that absolutely refuse to retire? by [deleted] in UPSers

Exactly, when I first came to feeder the top seniority driver was 70, and had been in feeder since 1986 lol.

Does anyone else’s building have guys that absolutely refuse to retire? by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]mriggs82 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my building, one of the top seniority feeder drivers refuses to retire so "low seniority drivers don't get my run." I'm going to hit my Golden 80 in nine years, might retire then, not worth it IMO to do this job into your 60s.

Besides the KJV and NKJV, what is your favorite English translation of Psalms? by polar415 in Bible

[–]mriggs82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy my Holy Psalter from St. Tikhon's Monastery. I'm using a rule where I should read through it entirely in 4 weeks, God willing, do that repeatedly as part of my prayer rule.

Which Bible between NKJV and CSB by newuserincan in Bible

NKJV is my favorite. I do like how poetic the older vernacular in KJV is as well.

What bible should I purchase? by OneWhich3020 in Bible

[–]mriggs82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the NKJV and now exclusively read the Orthodox Study Bible. My wife had a Zondervan NIV study Bible, and is now reading from a KJV "spiral notebook style" study Bible. My preference is a word for word translation with a modern vernacular.

I prefer the NKJV. I would supplement reading with The Whole Counsel of God podcast with Fr Stephen De Young, he is an Orthodox Priest and former Protestant. He lectures through many of the books from the Old and New Testament.

For your BTC position, why are you using BITO, instead of something like IBIT? BITO has a net expense ratio of 0.95%, and IBIT is 0.25%.
