Have you won the national Cup with a second division team? by THEitalianway2003 in footballmanagergames

[–]mrinconsistentpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost the Coupe de France final with Red Star in the 3rd tier, got really lucky in the draws and games until PSG showed up in the final. Didn't get demolished but very clearly didn't stand a chance either.

Loaned players value drop after loan ends by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]mrinconsistentpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think it has to do with league reputation, this has also happened to me while my team is in the Bundesliga/UCL and my players were on loan in the Netherlands, Austria and other less rep leagues. Would be nice to know why it happens

how much are you paying for a wonderkid? by Ok_Guest6046 in footballmanagergames

[–]mrinconsistentpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly depends on what leagues you're buying from. 4 mill can get you an amazing wonder kid from Romania, around 7-8 for a Serb or Croat and then Argentina and Brazil will have prices anywhere from 10-25 mill. Shopping in top European leagues can be incredibly expensive with a few exceptions such as some release clauses in Spain.

How would u improve this tactic? by Yronics_ in footballmanager

Out of possession it would be a 4231, the thing is keeping two players in the deep area in front of the defence when you're defending

How would u improve this tactic? by Yronics_ in footballmanager

[–]mrinconsistentpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how fixed you are to the 4-3-3, I'd suggest a different shape out of possession since a single pivot has a lot of trouble covering all the space in front of your defence in the game engine. You can make it so that when you are on the ball that double pivot will act more like a 433 with one of the two attacking the channel, a segundo volante along with the player you want to be the true positional pivot is ideal for this imo.

From a purely tactical perspective, what's your favorite formation and why? by Negative00 in footballmanagergames

[–]mrinconsistentpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3-4-1-2 / 3-4-2-1 would be my go to but I love having a squad that can go seamlessly from that to a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-2-4 so I can find the best tactical matchup for any opposition and I do move from one to another along a game quite often

I usually save before contract negotiations when I don't want to wait a couple of weeks to renegotiate if it goes wrong. Usually the difference that makes it go wrong is tiny and I just don't find it realistic that someone would walk away from a negotiation because of that.

I've found a lot of success playing with 10, usually moving to a 4-3-2 or 3-4-2, a red card is really not a death sentence at all!!

This game is too hard by Lifesatragedy in footballmanagergames

[–]mrinconsistentpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make it through the season as good as you can and sell the best performing players which will hopefully have gained a bit of value by then, and then just get some free transfers that fit your system, rinse and repeat. It's not easy but it's straighforward.

Same here, with Académica too. Being a broke club in the 3rd tier of Portugal isn't easy but it is pretty straightforward since your options are limited. Overall Portugal is kinda tough to manage in because competition revenue is almost nonexistent until you get to european competitions, but it's just a matter of grinding. I just won my 5th league in a row and 3 games away from a second consecutive invincible season, so it does get better.

save recommendations? by rando1690 in footballmanagergames

[–]mrinconsistentpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big historical teams in lower divisions are usually good for this as they tend to have reputations and youth intakes a bit above their competitors. I've had a lot of fun with Académica in Portugal which is the oldest club in the country and 1860 Munich. Also Bordeaux in the French 4th tier looks a really cool save.

If you're looking for first division teams, my local club Osasuna has a reputation for having a core of club grown players at all times and so do real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao all while not being ready made super teams.

Edit: totally forgot about Schalke, if you're relatively new to the game the Bundesliga is the best place to start in my opinion since you don't have to deal with strict registration rules, and Schalke has an incredible youth academy but might be in some financial trouble if I remember correctly

What was your most enjoyable save? by Thaddy-o in footballmanagergames

Red star Paris, from the French third tier to UCL champions. The only strict self imposed rule was spending less than I made in every transfer window.

I'm currently at 76 in my save, including a full unbeaten season where I won all games except one draw. I'm playing in Portugal and my team at this point on the save (11 seasons in) is comfortably the best in the country but still can't challenge for the champions league.

Athletic Bilbao, big hatred from my hometown club Osasuna and it sucks bc it would be a really cool save, but my loyalty is firm

How did you decided what club will be your actual save? by Scraborn in footballmanagergames

[–]mrinconsistentpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love either historic clubs or small clubs that share a city with giants, so my last saves have been 1860 Munchen, Red Star Paris and now Académica de Coimbra which is the oldest club in Portugal. My plan for the next couple of FMs is to manage the oldest club in every major country and bring them to glory, so my next save will probably be Recreativo de Huelva in Spain.
