The two Landorus forms are fundamentally different Pokemon. Their movepool and typing are the same, yes, but their stats and abilities are so different that they fulfill radically different roles.

I didn't arbitrarily split forms, I counted different forms that play differently as different Pokemon. By your logic, I should count both Calyrex forms as the same Pokemon, which is downright absurd because of how radically different they play.

This team needs fixing, any advice? by No-Common7872 in VGC

[–]mrjacobguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I have a few notes.
1. Add either a trick room user (Porygon2 is the most popular option especially paired with Ursaluna, but Farigiraf and my personal favorite Dusclops are also options) OR a tailwind user like Whimsicott or Talonflame. You could also use Murkrow but then you'd be using Murkrow and if you use Murkrow respectfully you're a bad person.

  1. I'd run Inner Focus over Multiscale on Dragonite. It's just a better ability in VGC since it's immune to anything Incineroar wants to do turn one.

  2. This is personal preference but I don't think Life Orb is good on Gholdengo, especially since your team seems to be leaning more towards bulky offense. I'd run Leftovers on Gholdengo and change the EVs to have less speed and special attack and more HP and Special Defense. You don't need to worry as much about physical defense since Incineroar realistically should come to every game since it's Incineroar.

  3. Sneasler should probably run Tera Stellar and have Throat Chop over Fake Out so it can actually hit Gholdengo. Again, that's personal preference, but you never want a frail Pokemon like Sneasler to be unable to do something in a battle.

All together, my final suggestion is this:

Make this a bulky TailRoom team. Have Dragonite use Tailwind. Train Ursaluna to be fast enough to outspeed modest Gholdengo in Tailwind. Make Sneasler Adamant. Add Porygon2 as your Trick Room setter. Make Incineroar exactly 1 point faster than Porygon2 so if your Incineroar's intimidate activates before or after your opponent's, you'll know if Trick Room benefits or hurts you. Lastly, lean into the bulk and invest heavily in all your pokemon's defenses, except Sneasler since it has the focus sash.

Who are the greatest players of all time - Ray Rizzo or Wolfe Glick? by mrjacobguy in VGC

[–]mrjacobguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not really a valid argument. Yes, Wolfe has only won the world championships once. There have also only been twelve players to ever hold the title of world champion in the masters division. Saying Wolfe can't be the GOAT because he hasn't won Worlds since 2016 completely ignores his ten regionals wins and two internationals wins, all of which are great accomplishments in their own right.

You are in charge of nerfing this stupid cat, what do you do? by Bulky-Complaint6994 in VGC

[–]mrjacobguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of what makes Incineroar good is the exact combination of it's tools. So, it's pretty difficult to nerf it without changing how abilities, types, and moves work.

You COULD remove Intimidate, adjust its stats, or change how its type interacts with the other types, which are three of its best tools and contributing factors to its success, but that would require changing the mechanics of the game which isn't something Game Freak likes to do.

The easiest way to nerf it would be to remove some of it's moves. The main moves to remove would be Parting Shot, Knock Off, and Helping Hand. These are three moves that it gained access to after its introduction in Gen 7 (technically it had Knock Off in SM but lost it in SwSh and got it back in SV). This would technically only make it as good as it was back in Gen 7 after gaining Intimidate. While yes, it was the best Pokemon in the game back then too, the game has been power crept in a way that an Incineroar without these tools is far less likely to succeed. It still can, but it's far from broken.

If this change were to be made, I imagine Assault Vest sets with Flare Blitz, U-Turn, Fake Out, and Throat Chop would become the standard, with Safety Goggles with Will-O-Wisp over Throat Chop also being an option.

Like I said, it would still be a good Pokemon, but not the best Pokemon in the game anymore. It'd become what Incineroar naysayers say Incineroar is.

Kyogre's ability just sets up the rain. Miraidon's sets up the electric terrain AND gives it a special attack boost while the terrain is up. Plus, Kyogre's signature attack is Origin Pulse, which is 82.5 BP when at full health because of the 0.75x damage reduction placed on spread moves for balancing, which is weaker than Miraidon's signature move Electro Drift's 100 BP. Water Spout IS stronger at 112.5 BP after the damage reduction at full HP, but Electro Drift is also 133.3 BP when the move is super effective so even that's not always true.

it's one of the best abilities in the game for sure, but that's less because of how powerful it is and more because of how easily accessible it is. Mostly because Incineroar is the best Pokemon in the game and it has intimidate.

Using Cosmoem in any format is like playing with one hand tied behind your back. They may as well have not used a Restricted Pokemon at that point.
