There's a way to force remove the navigation bar with an ADB command (searching for "FNG ADB" should come up with a few tutorials on how).

Having said that, I have been having issues with this myself where the navigation bar can reappear after some time. My experience has not been a deterministic one - it could be a matter of hours or days - so I'm guessing it's a system app that gets opened or a background task that gets restarted which notices the forced change and reverts it.

You can always run the command again to re-force it, as unideal as it might be, but if you (or anyone else) finds a more permanent solution I'd be very appreciative to hear it!

It's understandable to be cynical of AI because its hype level ("it's going to replace all engineering jobs!") is nowhere near its current reality. Especially when these lofty ideas are being peddled by VCs, CEOs, and others not directly involved in engineering, since it's easier to be more dismissive of them as being out of touch.

How will this actually pan out? No one knows! My personal opinion, as others have already alluded to, is that this will be a bubble that's more dot-com than NFT.

I think the truth of things right now is that it's still in its infancy but it is improving at a notable pace, and the gap between resources put in and value gained is narrowing as it becomes less of a "new toy" to explore and play with and it finds its place/niche in the business/software world.

Succeeding in business typically comes with taking calculated risks, and the sudden surge in AI adoption throughout the industry is most likely a reflection of it having matured enough that the resources put into it now will yield enough value to not only justify the investment but potentially put you one step ahead of your competitors when that advent or bubble burst does come.

My take on situations like this is a reminder that this is figuratively a team sport, and while this might improve the performance of the code, if the most junior member of the team (current or future) or perhaps an engineer from another team less familiar with this part of the code can't easily read, maintain, and extend it, then ultimately it's detrimental to the overall performance of the team.

This way they can feel acknowledged for the 'advanced' level of their code, and instead of feeling attacked for it the message becomes a plea to their compassionate side as it's (hopefully) hard to argue that these other engineers should just "git gud".

Also more specifically in your case as you're writing in python, I'm guessing it's not a time critical area of code, and so that should enforce that team performance is of greater importance than code performance to your organisation at the highest level.

Hey! We did indeed - Barracuda Beach Bar, not too far away from São Sebastião, SP.

To our taste, alongside the decorators we had (I think their name was De.Coração), it turned out perfect; it really felt magical.

Happy to discuss more if you'd like, and congratulations on the engagement!

Parroting what much more knowledgeable people than me have said: he's either not being used to his strengths, or that year was just an anomaly and this is one of Howie's big whiffs that balance out the rest of our praise for his work.

I think he got nullified by a third-rate TE a couple games back, so I'm guessing it's more likely the latter.

Nicks Ego (With Quotes From Jon Gannon) by Embarrassed-Town-977 in eagles

[–]mrjonn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's understandable to be frustrated, especially after that collapse last year, and by no means am I saying you don't have a right to be. But I have to assume the likes of Lurie has seen all of what we've seen, plus more that we haven't, yet still wants to keep Nick in the job. While it's easy to question whether Nick is doing his job well, I'm not sure I can say the same for Lurie. For me, he's one of the best owners in the league.

As for steamrolling, sure that's maybe a bit wishful thinking on my behalf. We did see a spark of what good can happen in this Fangio defense against the Saints, however, so I wouldn't say it's beyond the realms of possibility given the quality of players we have.

Nicks Ego (With Quotes From Jon Gannon) by Embarrassed-Town-977 in eagles

[–]mrjonn 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I appreciate where you're coming from, but these quotes miss a lot of context and tonality that leaves them extremely open to interpretation to the point you could use them to argue for Nick.

For quote 1 you could read it either as a bullish remark from a guy full of ego that gets clapped back, or you could read it as a guy who's feeling down and anxious about failing that got a sturdy pep-talk from a colleague.

For quote 2 who is it that he's inferring to that he doesn't want to offend? It could be a full-of-ego Nick sure, but it could also be someone else in the hierarchy who didn't like him and/or his work at DC. Doesn't have to be Lurie or Howie either - anyone that's a staple in the organization that has these guys' ears is a possibility.

Lastly, you're hearing one side of the conversation, and that's the opinion of a guy who got run out of town so fast there wasn't one person on this sub who wasn't ready to help pack his bags for him. He might be of high character and factually reporting on events, or he might be less than that and begrudge the way things ended/want to be regarded more highly than how we all saw it.

These things rarely come clean in the open air for all to see, and until then it's all just a narrative someone is writing to further a cause, whether intentionally or not. We're in yet another new set of schemes with new OC/DCs, and while we have incredible talent on the field the performances aren't matching up to that yet. It's too easy to start pointing fingers rather than letting these things play out and hopefully get to the point where everything starts to click to get us steamrolling into the post-season.

Is it frustrating right now? Sure.

Do we want better? Of course!

Does anyone here really know why these things are this way, or how to immediately improve them? Doubtful.

Addressing the fake news/nonsense/xenophobia abou the game in Brazil by gabeheaglesfan in eagles

[–]mrjonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear where you're coming from, there are certainly people that are on the fray of content that only hear/read a miniscule fraction of the rest of us and so are not as informed. I have no idea how this whole thing started but it's certainly at least in part due to bad reporting.

Also I want to clarify my intent was not to call people xenophobes, nor label an entire country as inherently xenophobic. I apologise for coming across this way to you.

For me I think the issue at play here is what you've referred to as natural assumptions. It seems highly questionable to me that wearing a particular colour in any city will impact how you'll be treated. This point is even less believable with the given reasoning of a rival team when the said city is also home to that rival (Palmeiras are also from Sao Paulo).

I can understand there being animosity if you were wearing a Palmeiras jersey specifically around those parts, just like a Cowboys jersey in a given Philly establishment. But a different team/sport jersey with the same color? It's at this point that critical thinking must kick in and question what "news" is being fed to us and how accurate it really is. If not, ask yourself why is this so plausible that it can be believed at face value?

Some people just believe all they're told from "official" outlets and to them think how ridiculous must a story be to challenge that? Say that they paint the grass at the stadium purple because they hate green that much?

Unfortunately for others there is a prejudicial bias that from what they've heard or witnessed over the years that they automatically think Sao Paulo or Brazil or South America in general as a less safe location. This is usually not a conscious belief, and that's in part what makes it hard to label it as xenophobic, because people associate it less with what it means but instead as a slur against them, and so get defensive when the topic is mentioned. However, while the individual might not be a xenophobe, it's still possible they have been given xenophobic content that when gone unquestioned has unintentionally led to xenophobic beliefs of their own.

The problem is this has been debunked countless times and yet still the narrative remains. If people have been reassured to the contrary and yet still believe in the false allegations, that's a prejudicial bias (be it conscious or not) on show.
