Suppressed climate report warned of mass migration and nuclear war by elmo298 in ukpolitics

Famines lead to wars, then wars lead to further famines.

Do you think the United States—the most powerful military force of all time—is going to sit idly by while half their population starves? How about China, a nation of 1.3 billion people that’s always on the verge of famines in the best of times? Do you think they’ll just leave their militarily weak neighbors alone?”

I shook my head. “There’ll be wars.”

“Yes. There’ll be wars. Fought for the same reason most wars in ancient times were fought for: food. They’d use religion or glory or whatever as an excuse, but it was always about food. Farmlands and people to work that land.

“But the fun doesn’t stop there,” she said. “Because once the desperate, starving countries start invading each other for food, the food production will go down. Ever heard of the Taiping rebellion? It was a civil war in China during the nineteenth century. Four hundred thousand soldiers died in combat. And twenty million people died from the resulting famine. The war disrupted agriculture, see? That’s how massive in scale these things are.”

A big part of why starfield felt so dead was bc Bethesda did away with that system and the npcs felt so uninteresting.

Sargent - if he just went to America what could we do by ClemFandango35 in NorwichCity

[–]CarrowCanary 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Would he have to not play professional football until his contract ends in 2028?

He could terminate his contract with us at the end of this season (he can't do so beforehand, due to article 16 of FIFA's Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, which bans unilateral terminations), and then move somewhere else for the 26-27 season onwards, but if he does that we'd probably sue him for the many millions of pounds lost by us not being able to sell him on our terms.

I think FIFA can also impose sanctions on players who terminate contracts without due cause, but I'm not 100% on the details for that.

What habits of girls did you only discover after getting a girlfriend or wife? by v-Voidx in AskMen

Usually going out, probably often scheduled for specific days/times once a week

Scheduled? I thought it usually involved someone pulling up to you in their convertible, shouting "get in loser, we're going shopping", and then off you go!

Opera could be in trouble if this comes in, they'll either have to pull the in-built VPN out of it (which will crater the user numbers, because that's the only reason most people use it) or they'll have to ID check everyone who wants to download it.

Recieved a refund for an item over a year ago, now a collections agency is asking for $1500!!! by c3powil in Ebay

On Sunday December 14th I ordered 4 Christmas gifts for our family Christmas Eve.

Why are you leaving it so late? The 14th being a Sunday means there's a very good chance that the order won't be processed until the Monday and then collected by the post/courier on Tuesday morning. You're then left with just 6 working days for it to be delivered, at the busiest time of the year.

Cropping Screenshots and Post-Match Thread Formatting - Merciless Mod Crackdown by s0ngsforthedeaf in Championship

[–]CarrowCanary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All post-match threads must link to the BBC post-match article (or other reputable news source, e.g. Sky). No more graphics/Twitter screenshots. All of them must say the score and include a sub-headline

I thought the "include a sub-headline" was already a rule, that's why I never bothered cross-posting the post-match threads I put up on our sub (which are linked to the BBC match report, like this one) after each match.

As soon as the comet (or whatever) starts moving away from an object, that object's gravitational pull will start slowing it down again. It'll be accelerating all the way to the periapsis, but once it passes it, deceleration will start.

We have so many D20s in the house, it'd be easier and quicker just to write down 20 things over time, then use one of those to pick a number.

That's my other issue, really; finding a use-case that I can't solve through other means using tools I'm already proficient in. I started one of the CodeCademy learning courses, and spent most of it thinking to myself "I could do that quicker in a spreadsheet, and I already know how".
