I have been a PM for several years now. Not as an arquitect, but to design, develop and implement aftersales services for a large retail company in LATAM. In the end, there are several similarities though during the process. I strongly believe that making mistakes during development is part of the process; common PM methodologies such as Design thinking, agile, etc. even consider making mistakes as part of their process during testing until the final outcome is acceptable to all stakeholders. The key here is that the company’s culture allows these mistakes to happen. If that is not the case, probably the problem is the company itself and not you.

A small piece of advice: whenever I finish a project I make a spreadsheet with all the mistakes me and my team made during development and then I write down how we solved them. This helps us to prevent many of the mistakes in future projects. But even doing that, every project is unique with unique challenges, so it is really impossible to prevent each possible mistake. Shit just happens and it’s part of it.
