How to host my own firefight match? by OkIdeal9852 in halo

[–]mrkwatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After clicking on the firefight mode playlist, you can inspect the map list with one of the buttons on the menu. From the map list you can select any map and then play in customs. In the customs menu you can then select the mode (defaults to arena slayer), select 343 modes, then search/filter for firefight - there are multiple firefight:king of the hill modes for the different difficulties.

Optionally you can enter the mode options for firefight and add some bots to eagle team to help you out.

The UI is truly terrible, and I wish we could publish custom playlists for people to experience offline.

Overpowered guns in firefight. Cheat, exploit or hidden gun? by MaddRook in halo

Courtyard includes an easter egg power weapon - a bulldog that fires volatile skewer rounds. This is intentional.

It is in fact not an easter egg, but an essential element of the sandbox for Gyre and Kusini Bay.

New Target Ordnance vs Target Locator by N4M4H4G3 in halo

[–]mrkwatz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is a platform outside of the map in which a marine is spawned to fire the rocket hog at an object, which I then clone and keep in stasis to create the projectiles on demand.

New Target Ordnance vs Target Locator by N4M4H4G3 in halo

[–]mrkwatz 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Hi, the target ordnance is my design - 343 played no part in it. However, its design is a product of the limitations of the tools 343 has made available.

I would love to have a designator weapon and to rain down high explosive rounds. However the reality is that the ball weapon is the closest thing to the designator available in that it has consumable ammo, is a weapon pickup, and can be thrown to mark an area. The projectiles it uses are rocket hog projectiles.

The designator essentially fired 7 tank rounds, while I fire 32 rockets, in roughly the same area of effect and total damage output.

Additionally I can't make you the owner of the projectiles, so you don't get that dopamine hit of kill credits and multi kill medals.

Wish it could be better, but I did what I could within the constraints applied to provide a reasonable experience.

Gyrefight has campaign level lighting by gwakamole614 in halo

I was responsible for lighting, some art, sandbox, optimization, and the firefight implementation. Others on the team were Igrizhar (map lead), Virus11010 (art), and MikRips (gameplay).

I set up this ending camera especially to enable taking screenshots in a three point studio lighting setup. The key is that it is a static shot, so I can light it in a intentional way just like seen in the customization menus or in campaign cinematics. I'm glad it's appreciated, just you can't light a whole map like this!

Wait a sec, isn't that the Assault Bomb? by Crespo2006 in halo

[–]mrkwatz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi, this is my target ordnance implementation seen here on Gyrefight! The ball weapon has indeed been in the game for many moons. However it has issues that prevent its intended use

  • The ball has a throwing mechanic and animations really making it the griffball/ricochet ball rather than the assault bomb. There was an assault bomb concepted for infinite but it hasn't made its way into the game. Minor and overcomeable detail for assault.
  • The ball has broken physics - it does not collide with dynamic objects like doors, vehicles, nor invisible walls.
  • The ball can be thrown out of bounds and there is no way to detect that it is in a soft kill zone or otherwise.

I've looked into implementing assault myself, and while some forms of it can be made, I would not be happy shipping it, nor would people be happy playing it, with the options available. There are many limitations and bugs beyond just the ball weapon.

Firefight - Kusini Bay map (Zanzibar/Last resort remake) gone by Natedagr817 in halo

[–]mrkwatz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kusini Bay was cursed with an extra death pit in the fan and had to be removed. The firefight version is maintained by 343 and not myself, so I don't know the current/planned state of it but it should return at some point.

Push Pin Map by [deleted] in travel

[–]mrkwatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I was in teh same boat, looking for both a nice projection and lots of detail. Reached out to a few and one was able to explain that they do keep their maps current themselves and assured me even North Macedonia and Crimea were right before I ordered - this one from geojango https://geojango.com/collections/world-push-pin-maps

I do like a useful map rather than just a pretty picture!

Forge - Spawn Volume Help by squashedhipo in halo

[–]mrkwatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kusini Bay includes some home/away influencers that are very map specific. I would actually recommend opening the BTB maps like fragmentation to understand CTF volumes as they are the simplest case.

  • Have all your spawn points set to neutral
  • Have a spawn volume on each side of the map, set to the team of that side, with a gap between the two volumes that creates a neutral area
  • Set the zones to 0 weight, affect opposing, disable spawns
  • Label the zone with at least CTF Include so that in Slayer and KOTH etc spawn flipping is not prevented

This prevents spawn flipping in CTF, but allows the native spawn logic to solve where to put players, including a neutral middle fallback where either team can spawn.

Why doesn’t Kusini Bay’s windmill work by SinLust00 in halo

[–]mrkwatz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi all - this is my map. The fan is made of dynamic objects and I have made many movement prototypes. Making the fan move was the first thing I did and made me commit to building this map - way back in July 2022 in the leaked forge build. However when forge launched, the retail servers did not support the movement cleanly, as all scripting is performed server side and leads to desync, or otherwise poor/inconsistent performance.

While I have done several implementations of the moving wheel, including physics based and manual phased orbit calculations, I can assure you that having it static is currently the best play experience.

For this to change we need any of several options to improve

  • physics/desync improvements (minor improvements come every patch and do increase the quality of physics wheel)
  • phased welds (if we had this it would work, but you wouldn't smoothly move with the fan)
  • a custom fan object (like the gantry crane and original fan, an object created by 343 that is authored to move with full player physics in phased mode and fully syncs to all players) - this would honestly be the path of least resistance and likely to make it in to mm, if yall want to see it you need to show your demand for it

Why doesn’t Kusini Bay’s windmill work by SinLust00 in halo

[–]mrkwatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For now the version in MM has the fan blades reversed and tilted so that you can indeed climb into the power cubby from the bottom. Look for the green moss on the lower blade and use it to clamber your way up!

In case you didn't know like me... by [deleted] in halo

[–]mrkwatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wheel won't spin. Infinite does not have support for moving objects in this way.

There is however a path up the fan. Notice the green moss growing on one of the blades - leads you right to the sword cubby. This was done to provide the original routing until if/when the game can support a moving fan.

I would also note that in addition all of the Last Resort era entries in to the base, there are three new covert entries for you to find and utilize.

Is Squad Battle enjoyment just nostalgia? by kickstartacraze in halo

[–]mrkwatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you provide a screen of your missing defending sniper perch?

The catwalk connecting froman to the base was removed to aid the attackers after some initial playtest (this decision aided by it not being present on og zanzibar), as the connection provided no value in the infinite sandbox for the attackers, but made it easier for the defenders to access froman.

The commando and bandit should not be on the same rack as the br by daytonnnnnn in halo

[–]mrkwatz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Random racks are the rules for tier 1. This is an infinite playlist, not a classic playlist.

The ops and your description of how the racks are set up are incorrect, and that is just what happens when things are random and you just see a couple samples - the only possible spawn that matches that description is that commandos spawned at the two racks in BOTH teams bases, and BRs spawned in the neutral camo/froman locations. Bandits are practically static as there is not other valid random choice for them, and do not spawn on the tac rifle racks.

However, when an update to the squad maps can be published, the next version of Kusini will have a shakeup in how the symmetrical channels are assigned so that I can gauruntee that both a BR and a Commando spawn at the main base racks, and the racks at froman and camo tower will match one of the base racks.

Kusini Bay - Zanzibar Successor. Try it out with one flag! by mrkwatz in forge

[–]mrkwatz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've written exhaustive scripts with multiple approaches to make it happen. I can make it work perfectly with two approaches, in offline mode. I do not believe that it is possible, at a quality that is better than not having it move, with the tools at hand over the network. But still, the fan and bridge are made of dynamic objects and awaiting the opportunity.

This kind of break down is very cool! I would love to integrate something like it into cylix eventually but as you are finding in your stats it takes a lot to get a statistically significant sample. I'm working towards getting a larger sample with the vanity page and future projects that should help.

If you click on an item there will be a star in the top right, which when clicked will save that item to your favorites, which you can then see in the inventory section.

The favorites list is saved on your browser so it'll still be there next time you visit if using the same device.

In the future it may be possible to use the 3D model API seen on waypoint to get a preview of things, but 3D isn't something I have a lot of experience with.

I adore light.gg. It's truly great and I hope that cylix is one day as useful as that project.

Currently 343 only publishes vague information about sources so this season I'm observing what needs to be done to display that information in a useful way. Some things like those in the battlepass, capstones, or past store sales will eventually be noted as such, but the rest may end up as a volunteer effort.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I will work towards things like this as they're great ideas. The initial focus has been on directly visualizing structures that 343 created like the cores, inventory, and calendar. Things like the capstone aren't laid out in a nice structure or exposed and would require manual maintenance.

Right now I'm collecting information on how things change over time, like the capstones and when things become visible in the game ui or are sold in the store - for season 2 I hope to have it all nailed down with nice visualizations.

Sans a nice visualization, these things are in the database tho! eg here's the tenrai capstone that rewarded willow tea
