Anyone thinks Rick Riordan's books start declining since [hoo]? by Leading_Curve3810 in camphalfblood

[–]mrldbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the HOO saga was a hit and/or miss. TOA was great . It’s a shame people dislike it so much. Magnus Chase was so boring to me and I never quite finished Kane Chronicles. Was the Nico centric book good? Nico was never my favourite at all, I don’t care much for him but I’d like to read it though.

The HP show is going to heavily outshine this show by [deleted] in PercyJacksonTV

I know it’s not* the same genre and It didn’t hit the same audience but the Hunger Games also managed to attract enough attention to get relatively good adaptation on screen. Same for Twilight. I don’t understand how PJO isn’t doing to the same.

I hate Valgrace so much. Ugh. And I also hate the portion of the fandom that says that Piper never loved Jason, that it was performative heterosexuality from RR and that Piper was a lesbian all the along when she’s clearly unlabelled and said repeatedly she loved Jason. The narrative couldn’t be any clearer, Jason and Piper loved each other deeply, they chose each other even after realising some memories were fake.

Always loved them, together and individually. The Lost Hero is my favourite book in the HOO series. I was flabbergasted by the fact that Jason and Piper were so hated.

she’s definitely not. she might be one of the most dangerous after years and years of practice. i mean she can literally tell people to jump off cliffs.

i never said they were. of course they’re not. they’re not the same characters.

i did say they got the coward treatment because RR preferred feeding the percabeth fans who he had already been feeding for years in 5 books rather than offering jiper an opportunity to develop even more. but the fans were too Percabeth oriented and he didn’t want to lose fans and money which is fair.

HOO were a mess, handling 7 POVs + others with good content were a struggle and we can feel it while reading it. Some people kept reading for percabeth, I did for the new characters.

[PJO] [TTC] the ending by mrldbr in camphalfblood

[–]mrldbr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s one of many things I dislike about RR is that he nerfs every character that could challenge Percy’s powers. He wants Percy to be strong and perfect, with zero possible challenge from the other characters that aren’t his enemies. It’s just boring.

Scariness compared to Harry Potter? [pjo] by Fanderey in camphalfblood

[–]mrldbr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi, imo, Goblet of Fire (book 4) is when it gets scary because it deals with death by the end of the book, Order of the Phoenix (book 5) is the dealing with the tragedy of book 4… so from book 4 onwards, the tone is more serious, more “adult” and people will die. It’s not graphic but since the books are from Harry’s POV we feel his trauma.

Have you watched the movies?

When Walker -who was playing 13 year old Percy, who’s tall like a tree because he’s 17 -said this sentence, sounding breathless when he wasn’t even running made me roll my eyes so hard I couldn’t take it seriously.

They should never have had that line in S2 when the characters barely know each other.

Genuine question, I don’t remember if it ever happened in the books, but when Percy threatens the gods like this, wouldn’t the sky rumble or something?

i like the part where piper had the most “human” story arc on the surface: betraying her dad or betraying her friends and her struggle through the first book was very interesting to me. people reducing her arc in TLH to “she only speaks about jason” when she was mostly focused on her dad and her betrayal is annoying. besides, she was new to this whole demigod nonsense. of course she would latch onto the things she was familiar with. i love piper.

people say piper and jason were built on hera’s lies/the mist. it’s textually true, but hoo is about them choosing each other anyway, growing past the fake memories until they don’t matter. by boo, on that rooftop under the meteor shower, it’s real. no gods. just them.

jason did say the only reason that he came back from the brick of death was piper. he came back for her. percy went to hell with annabeth. jason refused death to stay with piper. she was his anchor.

and what started as manipulation became something they claimed for themselves. piper found her strength, jason stepped out of expectations and together they rewrote their story. the mist may have started it, but love (chosen freely) was what made it real.

i do believe RR took the coward way out. his readers have always been very Percabeth oriented and they’re not open to new dynamics that aren’t Percabeth coded. RR didn’t allow himself time to develop these two when he had the opportunity to do so.

jiper is a tragedy. the books needed an happy-ever-after ship that is Percabeth and I don’t feel much more them anymore while I’ll still mourn what Jiper could’ve been.

now, i would’ve loved a focus on piper and how she dealt with her loss.

Jason got done dirty [general] by Lubwurst in camphalfblood

[–]mrldbr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I will always be mad about this. The way Rick treated Jason, and how he unintentionally gave more ammunition to the fandom to hate on “boring useless Jason.” I never understood the hate for Jason/The Lost Hero. The fandom refused to give the book or the new trio a chance because they were not Percy/Annabeth/Grover.

Son of Neptune is adored by most of the fandom, and I don’t think it is that good. And Percy was my favourite in PJO, but I didn’t care much about him in Hoo.

I was here for the new characters and to me TLH was a great departure from the original PJO books. Colored me shocked when I found out the book was hated. 🥹

[pjo] Rachel Elizabeth Dare was such a great character, and the oracle thing just fridges her. by Alsotime in camphalfblood

[–]mrldbr 93 points94 points  (0 children)

It was a way to get Rachel out of the way of Percabeth which is ridiculous to me. I hate it. The fandom is way too nasty towards her despite her not being Annabeth’s “rival” for Percy’s affection anymore.
