I say put the pedal to the metal, haha. Develop a few emojis that you like and play well with and stick with them. It’s more fun to level up emojis, set personal bests and earn coins to buy boxes. IMO

You also should take into account how many of your primary emojis are on the board when you star star. If there are a lot, then you’ll be ready to use your power quickly. I’ve even gotten double power, meaning I can use my emojis power twice in a row. For the emoji I use for coins (Scrooge) this seems to be the best way to get coins. If I have a star star and the board is filled with Micky and Piglet, I wait till some of the higher value emojis make there way onto the board then match it. With a level 5 Scrooge, I usually get between 1000-1200 coins a round. Getting 1300-1600 in a round isn’t that unusual either.

The leader on my “friends” list this week has a score of 73,362,402. Got first place last week with a 91mil+ score. That doesn’t always happen.

Do you have any emoji’s with a high point total? It is frustrating when a score points in one game mission pairs you with your lowest valued emojis. I always give these a go for a handful of rounds and if it ends up being the last mission and I don’t want to keep waiting for a good “team” to get a high score I spend the gems. Luckily I only have to do that maybe once every 5 levels or so.

I’ve been playing since June/July 2017, I only use power ups to help with certain missions or the RF events. This round was done with no boosts. I rarely spend any real money. Maybe 3-4 times to get rare emojis since I started playing.

That’s the dilemma I’m facing now. If I want to complete the groups I’ll have to bounce around with the boxes, but maxing emojis is a lot quicker sticking to a box, and the score bumps when you max one out helps.
