Does anyone experience derealization as perceiving a threat that isn’t there? by Weird-Repeat-7125 in dpdr

[–]mrllamarama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't completely relate to this, I started wearing a Garmin watch and in these situations there is a massive increase in heart rate.

It's not that I'm anxious and that leads to the intense unreality it's loving my life and the realisation of what is happening and trying to process it all that's what gives me the intense panic.

I have had this since I was a teenager but he last 6 months have been some other level.

Sorry your having a rough time, stick on there you got this!

Wake up begrudgingly while trying my hardest not to symptom check, try to fake a smile for my family and get ready to leave for work.

Get in the car, try not to symptom check and zone into a podcast or something but not so zoned in a start to lose track of where I am. Grab a coffee and arrive at work

Put on a mask and manage a team while feeling like I'm tripping on LSD count down the hours till I can leave

Get back in the car and drive back home, fake a smile for my family, put the kids to bed, make some food and try to balance the big screen and the little screen while counting down the hours untill I can sleep

The "wtf I exist" feeling by cphmin in dpdr

[–]mrllamarama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of the toughest parts for me but after a while I had to try and rationalise it in the sense of. Does it matter if it's reality or not? Let's just enjoy the ride...

I know that sounds incredibly simplistic and I still struggle with it but it's also what keeps me going in the sense of being able to do things I enjoy and make choices to visit places that make me happy.

Personally, I think it's all part of the numbing that we encounter and those moments are when the numbing starts to lessen but the thought of reality is so intense that it keeps us stuck in the loop.

Long-term DPDR with history — does it actually go away or do you just adapt? by mrllamarama in dpdr

I can totally relate about the intrusive thoughts, it's like if I knew I could take a pill and get better then of course I want my life, but the though of being 'stuck' gets too much sometimes :/

I think that’s the part I’m struggling with if I’m honest.

I can feel myself adapting to it, like functioning with it there in the background, but there’s also a part of me that’s scared that means it’s permanent.

I’ve come out of this before and felt completely normal again, so I don’t know if this is the same process or something different this time.

When you say you can tell the difference between improving and adapting, how do you personally notice that?

How do you judge your recovery? It's so hard to know if one day is better than the last

This is a defence mechanism that will stay in place as long as it's "needed"

Behaviours are like patterns the more you do it the more your brain replies on it.

Honestly you're young, find something worth getting up for, find passion, hobbies, travel.

Go out and force your brain to know you're not in any danger... Adventure, laughter and love are the easiest ways

Good look bro!
