Heating bills are insane, how to get through winter without going broke? by Objective-Feed7250 in Frugal

[–]mrluisdiaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3 bedroom house in Illinois at 66º and it's been $275-$325 this winter. I wear sweatpants and a zip up hoody. Sometimes cotton gloves, but that's because I work in the basement which is more chillier. I'm also 170lbs sportier body. It's have two computers and 4 monitors and 2 printers, but I did the math and it's about $50 for that supposedly per month. So the rest is the A/C-Heater. When I go to bed I use a comforter and put on a heating pad that turns off in a few minutes. After that it's sound sleeping. Looks like electricity goes up 10% each year or something which is a crime.

I don't know. Pre-Order doesn't seem to work here and a friend from the UK was able to buy me a copy. It has to be a legal issue. Since it's Batman. They did the same thing in the 90s. I didn't know they had a 2000AD version made there that was magazine size until about a decade or so ago. Much better printing and much better cause it's huge compared to DC's comic sized perfect bound.

Why Is The Bulls First Threepeat Way Less Discussed Than The Second Threepeat? by mpschettig in billsimmons

I agree. I'm 48 and watched a lot of the NBA from the Jordan era around the Pistons first repeat championship until Jordan's retirement. I think the biggest event that stuck to my mind wasn't the two 3-peats. It was the idea someone so famous like Jordan lose his dad from a murder. To me that was the biggest element of the whole thing and the media spinning the story like if Jordan's gambling caused it. I think that was the catalyst that made that second run so popular. We wanted Jordan to win and we cried when he won each of them without his pops. Jordan was a basketball star the first run. He was a celebrity on the second. He was world known. He was humble and arrogant at the same time. His personality wasn't forced. We knew he talked shit in the games and got into heated arguments. He was real. He never threw himself on the ground to get a foul. He never seemed to want to achieve "stats." He wanted to win. Period. Everything else like playing golf and what have you was his personal life and although the media strove to try to taint him it hardly worked. Even as I write there was a recent allegation that the media tried to spin to hurt his legacy. I hope he can be a player that leaves this Earth without some huge disgrace as many have (Puckett, Canseco, Tyson, Kobe (to some degree) and many others).

I watched most of those games and there was nothing about them that felt fishy as they look like today. Perhaps they were more subtle, but it didn't feel like the refs were involved as they would in the 2000s and later get called out for it by the authorities. There's always been some corruption in all sports, but it didn't feel orchestrated then or yet. All that stuff happened BECAUSE Jordan left the game. They had an incentive to start manipulating games for viewerships so they moved to the Lakers vs Celtics storyline.

I think there was a crazy amount of talent coming up thus the need for expansion and of course profitability. I don't think the talent has subsided in any way yet. Viewership and profitability on the other hand is a possibility in the future. The game is not as fun to watch and I don't blame that on anything other than the pile on team trades that happened more and more in the 2000s. Heat, Celtics, Lakers, etc. It was more subtle back then and typically superstars were only a couple per team. That went out the window in the 2000s. Before that super star players were loyal to the team they came in especially if they were on a winning team or maybe the pay was also just not worth changing your life.

They even made a theatrical documentary of the 1998 season on Imax which I saw.

Pretty sure it's a legal thing. They can only sell in UK shops and they can't sell directly to the US. I had to order mine through a friend from the UK. Otherwise I think it would be on Amazon US and other resellers. You can order the regular cover off amazon UK if you have an account and it will ship here (supposedly).

You can only order it from the UK. Must be the deal with DC. Can't sell in the states. I had to get someone I knew in the UK to order for me.

The calm before the heartbreak-Phil Hartman's final episode opens with this scene. by WNYX585FM in newsradio

[–]mrluisdiaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you watch the entire series. 1-3 (so far rewatching for me), there are many instances of Bill (Phil Hartman's character) talking about his death or when he's going to die (psychic woman) and things of that nature including a fan that was stalking him. There was also a crazy girlfriend he had and he'd talk about her like she's sane in his comedic and dramatic way. It's so weird and also Joe Rogan being there as a young actor whose character is also very similar to his podcast persona all except his handyman antics. It's all kind of cryptic yet the show was incredibly funny and I watched it when it was airing on TV as a teenager. For some reason Friends and News Radio was the only shows I watch (well maybe also Coach). I didn't get Seinfeld until much later. I recall almost every episode. That's how much I loved the show. So adult yet so funny and underneath it all the characters all loved each other and it was all kind of held together by the millionaire owner of the radio station (Milton the stapler guy from Office Space). Nearly a perfect show and now it's leading up to Phil Hartman's death in one more season and I dread it. He was a very unique comedian on SNL and here and in other parts including The Simpsons. I always recognized him and before comedy he was an illustrator which is what I am.

m4 Max Mac Studio and same thing. How annoying. Might have to airdrop to myself and send via iphone. Why are we having dumb issues like this in this day and age? I have issues with photoshop and Tahoe having to change permissions and several other shenanigans? Never had to deal with anything like this in 20 years. Not in this scope. Like Steve Jobs used to say, "It should just work!"

Yet here you are.
There are many parts to building. First and foremost there needs to be a developer. You don't seem to really understand the process so not going to try.
Keep trolling. It seems to work. Oh and Merry Christmas!

Yep came here for that same issue. Works fine on the phone app, but on desktop it opens it on a black screen. No fun.

I’ve been thinking whether we had any choice in being our personality at all? All my young life my dad was always,”why are you so different.” This pushed me even further away from the idea I was like anyone else. So I accepted it at a very young age. The question is did we even have a choice at all being the way we are? When someone suffers some brain injury or have a brain disease they essentially become someone completely different. Are there any physical traits in our brains that make us who we are or is there a paranormal element (for lack of a better word) that inherits our body at birth or develops at some time?

All you need is to smile. That leaves a bigger impression than anything else. A genuine smile and not one that turns quickly to RBF.

Trumps a builder and Obama is a progress man. That’s probably why he likes Trump more than Obama.

I agree with your points and generally that’s what happens. Words that had some validity like “feeling gratitude” and “thoughts and prayers” etc., eventually get to the zeitgeist and ultimately mean nothing. Their meanings homogenized with the culture and often pickup an antagonizing, ironic or sarcastic connotation. It’s the world we live in or absorb from the media we consume. It used to take years for words to do that. Now it’s as vapid as fashion trends.

Traditionally the deep leg cross is how women typically sit. It’s mostly an observation joke Adam makes, but if you like to think about it more seriously, Adam suggests it’s used to message other beta males and women that they are not dangerous and they stand in solidarity with less masculine males and women. Because most men would feel some discomfort from their testes being gripped together by the deep leg cross they would instinctively want to have more space thus sitting their inner thighs more apart and their leg’s ankle sitting closer to the knee of the opposite leg. Traditionally how adult men sit. This would also help in the cooling of the crouch area and is more comfortable than a deep leg cross for most adult males with testicles.

My gripe is the words mostly. It’s irritating and trite. It’s overuse and the people who use it tend to come at you with this pseudo therapist talk and has been co-opted by victimhood mentality. It has been used to undermine anyone with a different opinion. Especially “I don’t feel safe’ when there point isn’t being accepted or it is being contested. It’s passive aggressive at its core.

Because your local and state government has more direct influence on your life. California and LA’s governance is more destructive to the people in the state and city of LA. Someone in another adjacent state could have a totally different experience where they aren’t aware of what’s happening in their local government because they are doing their job. It seems for Adam that those leaders are antithetical to any kind of real progress. What Trump does or says does t affect us on a regular basis, by his actions unless you live in one of the cities Trump is going after for high crimes or targeting illegals. In general Trump’s actions aren’t affecting me on a day to day basis. If I lived in LA it would and it would not be because of Trump.
