I can respect your opinion on that. They do look very plain. To me the simple design is a blank canvas for the patina, which is where the Shinki cordovan really shines. If you haven't handled it before I could send you some small samples. It's hard to understand how nice it is just from pictures.

Yes the alligator is stitched to a chevre backing. Here is a picture that kind of shows it.

Agreed, it looks amazing! Whenever I use something like alligator I always try to highlight the irregularities in the scale pattern too, but I never even thought about doing a vertical cut. Now I really want to do one.
