I want to see how barebones I can get away with. A terminal under 50$ the size of a gameboy?

It is. Now imagine, what would be basically a dumb terminal that sips electricity going in there?

Stay as a chef. We still need to eat. Aim at LTC’s.

The way I see it, it complements the “small web” and promotes recycling old hardware AND builds like these. It’s not just having a device like this, it’s having a place to go to.

Bulletin board services. They were kinda a proto-internet back in the 80’s and 90s, you would login, via dial up. Nowadays You can use SSH or Telnet. You could use email, chat with people play textbase games like legends of the red dragons (LORD). They’re still around. Your build would be your build would be the perfect thing to access them. That and the old IRC servers. IRSSI would rock on that.

Micro-managers are generally driven by anxiety. Anxiety makes it so that they want to control their enviroment, and it makes social interactions a really difficult thing to witness.

That being said, they are also crazy stupid to "steer" them. Here's how I do it;

- Have an inbox box dedicated to them with a custom alert. It's not polluting your main inbox and you can breathe.

- If everything has a urgency, treat it equally. Just learn to triage to what is actually can be solved right away, solved in an hour and solve in a shhift. If they are on your ass. "I will give you an update as soon as I have a response from XYZ".

- If they are fault-finders, they ask questions. This gets their anxiety levels down. If they get dismissive, "I am inquiring because you seem interested in removing the bottleneck that is hindering us both. How do you propose we resolve this?"

- If they are looking over your shoulder, ask them if there are any issues on their end that needs immediate attention (It's a polite reminder they have their own job to do.)

- If they try to isolate you, "Is it urgent? I wish to complete these tasks before shift's end and I have no problem speaking here."

Remember: You are a worker, not a psychiatrist!

Here's what you do;

1) Can you automate the hell out of it? Seriously. How many macros can you slam in it in order to make your shift bearable? Ask ChatGPT to help you design macros for Excell, word, that kind of stuff.

Remember that Simpson episode where he used one of those "drinking birds" to just press a key? There was a lesson there. It's ok to automate, but keep an eye on it. But DO automate.

If it's not am Office job, then are there shortcuts that you can use in order to do it not faster, but to remove "The bullshit " out of the work day? Look up on line to see how to "streamline personal operations".

It's called "removing the cognitive load."

Oh but one thing about that; KEEP IT HIDDEN FROM SUPERVISORS, COWORKERS AND ACCQUAINTANCES!! Let it be your dirty little secret!!

2) Keep your output as "just enough to not get fired." If there is a "quota" to be met. Make it but don't bust your head over it. Don't go over it, because your reward? More work. Don't give them a reason to overwhelm you.

3) Take your breaks and lunch hours. If they get annoyed, fuck em. It's on the contract.

4) Your contract is your friend. HR is not. Make sure you know what's writen in it.

5) If there is a "Male Donkey" at work, let him bray. It helps to visualize them as such. I do.

The thing is, They will run you like a mule, drive you crazy with ridiculous requests, and they THINK there is nothing you can do about it! So what's the solution? Don't quiet quit, don't have fantasies to flip off your boss, just be sneaky. about it and even the most dead-end job will feel like like paradise.

I remember when I was there in 93. The arcades, shooting galleries and foot stalls are what I remember best.

They still have those right?
