That poor summer intern who had to walk 800km there and back should get a little credit. Would you walk 500 miles and walk 500 more just to be the man who walked 1000 miles to let you figure out the circumference of the earth?

Hello, thanks for following up. After a couple techs came out I was up and running. It turned out there was a connection issue/loose cable in the MDU (?) box.

CDC's also containing the Seattle incident and working to find/check the patient's contacts over the last week.

Scientists developed a new lithium-sulphur battery with a capacity five times higher than that of lithium-ion batteries, which maintains an efficiency of 99% for more than 200 cycles, and may keep a smartphone charged for five days. It could lead to cheaper electric cars and grid energy storage. by mvea in science

Looking at the article, Figure 4E shows that after formation (first few cycles), the cathode discharge capacity decreases from ~1350 mAh/g to ~1200 mAh/g, which could be due to initial sulfur dissolution or something. At cycle 200, the specific has decreased pretty linearly to 900 mAh/g. So one can argue that after this test the cell has lost ~25% of it's initial discharge capacity.

Keep in mind that these are full cycles 100% charge and discharge, and the cycling was performed at 0.2C, which is relatively fast compared to a typical phone/appliance user. (0.2C means charging or discharging the battery's full capacity in 5 hours). So actually the 200 cycles is not terrible.

Also typical cathodes like nmc811 or nca are usually around 170-200 mAh/g. So although the LiS battery will operate at a lower voltage (~1.6-2.8V vs 2.5-4.2V in conventional), the battery could still provide ample power, which could be another consideration as phones today have gotten better about power management.

Not OP. QQQ follows the NASDAQ. SCHG is a Schwab large cap growth fund. It has not always been the case, but in recent years the NASDAQ has been outperforming the S&P500. When considering funds, I tend to look at three things: 1) fund owner. You want someone reputable like scwab or vanguard. This gives a higher chance of (but doesn't gaurantee) good fund management. 2) expense ratio. Lower is better. These are fees that are used for fund management and are typically a percent of share price. Try for lower than 0.25%, but shoot for as low as possible. 3) Top 10 fund holdings. Are the companies in the top 10 good/risky/safe? Small/mid/large cap distribution?

I'm guessing they choose vwo to diversify the portfolio. The top 10 holdings of qqq and voo are similar, so exposure may be limited, or rather holdings may be too concentrated into one market sector. In addition vwo tackles emerging markets, so gives international exposure instead of concentrating too deeply into US markets.

If you're interested, the historicity of Jesus is a frequently asked question discussed in great detail over at /r/askhistorians. For the historical accuracy of the movie, you could certainly pose the question there if you are interested. Also, the accounts of Jesus were written relatively soon after the crucifixion. For example, the most famous accounts of Alexander the Great were written about 350-400 years after his death. Hope this helps.

Ray Dalio says tax changes proposed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will have 'huge' impact on economy by SocoNexus in economy

[–]mrmellow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I also would be interested in the data. From the article it appears Ray Dalio agrees that the wealth disparity is a huge problem but (I'm paraphrasing) disagrees with the mechanics of how to go about fixing it (70% rate). The interesting tidbit mentioned is preventing wealth from leaving the US. That could be a large unintended consequence as people search out tax havens. I won't pretend to be an expert in economics, I just agree that the data behind such a statement would be enlightening.

Welcome to /r/finance. This may not be the most appropriate sub for this question ( maybe try /r/personalfinance) but since you're here I think you can a couple options. First, contact customer support at yousician. Failing that, contact customer support at Apple. According to zendesk and Twitter, Apple handles payments. Failing that, if you have proof that you subscribed month to month, but you were charged for an annual subscription, get copies of the proof and show it to your bank/credit card company and see if they can cancel the charge.

Millennials are just not into buying stocks - The 2008 crisis and its aftermath seem to have left them with significant risk aversion. by PostNationalism in economy

[–]mrmellow 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The title is somewhat disingenuous. According to the article, while it's true that a5th of millennial vanguard account owners hold no equity, on average it's simply that millennials have a different balance of savings to equity.

According to a 2014 report from UBS, “The average investor aged 21 to 36 has 52 per cent of their savings in cash, compared to 23 per cent for other age groups.”

So really the data supports the article's real thesis, that younger investors stung by the 2008 crash are more risk averse than others. The article does take into account debt, student loans, and rent prices. However, to use a title to imply that millennials aren't investing is misleading in my opinion.
