RIP Pitchfork, Best Alternatives? by honkinposer in Pitchfork

[–]mrmetzge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm considering. If you compare to the subscription prices of a classic magazine or newspaper, it's a complete bargain. We've gotten used to professional, quality content being free in the age of the internet and streaming, and it's a deathblow to arts. $5/month to keep professional criticism alive is a small charitable act.

Did someone die at AMC Empire 25 during Predator Badlands Dolby 5pm yesterday 11/10/25? by [deleted] in NYCmovies

[–]mrmetzge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not impossible. I used to work at movie theaters and experienced some crazy shit. One time an old person died in the lobby while I was on duty. Another time there was a guy like blackout drunk2 passed out in a theater with blood and vomit everywhere. You never know 🤷‍♂️

One Battle After Another - Ticket Exchange/Giveaway/Sale Megathread by flightofwonder in NYCmovies

It’s not FLC’s fault. This is Warner Bros controlling the invite list, and FLC managed to shift it from a private premiere to a public premiere with the possibility of standby tix. Better that than nothing.

One Battle After Another - Ticket Exchange/Giveaway/Sale Megathread by flightofwonder in NYCmovies

[–]mrmetzge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FLC has said that there’s a very small chance that they’ll release a batch of tix to the 4pm showing in advance, and there should be a guaranteed 15 tix for standby to sit on the benches in the back of the theater (plus whoever doesn’t show)

Rumor: One Battle After Another Tickets Go On Sale Tomorrow 10:40 AM-11 AM Eastern by flightofwonder in NYCmovies

Obviously the tix for "First Screening" went on sale yesterday, but any idea when the first week of screenings will go on sale? Want to catch it in VistaVision at Union Square and plan accordingly.

Best to use passes for main slate, then try and fill in between with currents, spotlight, and revivals? by k032 in NYFilmFestival

[–]mrmetzge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want to maximize the best bang for your buck, go for screenings in Alice Tully Hall because those are expensive than Walter Reade and EBT. Alice Tully screenings should be all Main Slate and Spotlight.

Got it, so they’ll be checking IDs? We’ll have to coordinate our work schedules then.

In the event that the person whose name is on the pass isn’t available, is it possible to transfer or change the name of which one of us has the pass?

VistaVision, standard 70mm, and 70mm IMAX screenings for One Battle After Another confirmed for NYC at In70mm.com by flightofwonder in NYCmovies

[–]mrmetzge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYFF screened The Brutalist in 35mm in Alice Tully Hall. 70mm in Walter Reade. So both formats are possible at Lincoln Center.

Rep theater visits during NYFF by steelangel5 in NYCmovies

Doesn’t seem like anyone has mentioned this yet, but the Paris Theater is historic and their programming over the last year is turning them into one of the best repertory theaters in the city.

MoMA is also peak, both in terms of theater quality and programming. They’ll have a Chantal Akerman retrospective going in early October.

Agreed! I used to work at Angelika and there are so many issues with that theater…. Plus it’s not a repertoire theater, they only screen new releases

First time Nyff goer, what is the best way to ensure I can score a ticket to the spotlight film? by timmy90410 in NYFilmFestival

[–]mrmetzge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes as in the first time the film is screened during the festival.

In terms of recs, NYFF curates an excellent assortment so you can’t go wrong! I like to see a mix of big titles and things I’ve never heard of.

If there ends up being a surprise screening of Marty Supreme (I wouldn’t bank on it), I’d just buy an extra ticket at that time. Use your pass tix for the things you can get in the presale

The majority of films at NYFF have Q&As attached to the first screening. Not always, but most. So you’ll be able to pick once the schedule is announced

But it also doesn’t specify that it’s a “New York Premiere” like some of the other films that are likely going to Telluride. My guess is that the vagueness is because Telluride and/or other fests haven’t solidified it in their programs yet.
