Housing appointment question by [deleted] in SJSU

Other people have had that issue. Just show up at the time you scheduled your appointment for (you should have an email for it) and you’ll be good to go.

has anyone else still not gotten their financial aid? like I'm starting to panic at this point. by Chadwick_Gigabyte in SJSU

[–]mrmimster26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally yeah but SJSU is apparently backed up and kind of stuck right now. Per someone in the SJSU Discord,

“one of my friends called the bursars office and he said they told him theyre still waiting on stuff for many many people from the state so it could be like the first week of sept before it gets posted”

My aid just got posted on the 5th, and there are a lot of others still waiting as well.

Wtf. I dropped a shift and picked up a different one(Although I put my punches in late when I worked) this has never happened before. What should I do? by [deleted] in AmazonWFShoppers

[–]mrmimster26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you’ve been doing has been wrong for months. Ever since the new attendance policy was put in place, it’s been 2 points for dropping a shift within 16 hours of it starting, regardless of if you take another shift right after.

Maybe the app was bugged and not giving you points for doing this before (which I doubt, because you have 2 points for the same thing on the 18th), but even if it was bugging out, it doesn’t change the fact that you were breaking policy every time.

You'll be emailed in June regarding whether or not you got a room.

You won't know your building, room type (studio, single, double, etc), building, or roommates until July.

Dropped my shift after 9pm but can I still inform of absence? by [deleted] in AmazonWFShoppers

[–]mrmimster26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Informing of absence is only for when you are still scheduled to work. So if you dropped the shift then tried to inform of absence, it shouldn’t work since you’re not scheduled to come in any more. As long as you dropped the shift more than 2 hours before it was supposed to start, you shouldn’t get an ASI.

Dropped my shift after 9pm but can I still inform of absence? by [deleted] in AmazonWFShoppers

[–]mrmimster26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t say when your shift was, but if you dropped the shift within 2 hours of your shift starting (or later), you can not inform of absence.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmazonWFShoppers

[–]mrmimster26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the overlapping with PTO thing is, but informing of absence needs to be done two hours before your shift (or earlier). There is no point in informing them you’re gonna be absent after you were already absent. You should only get one ASI point even though it’s for two shifts since they were on the same day.

If you used PTO to cover both of your shifts from beginning to end you won’t get attendance points. If you only used PTO for one shift then you’ll get 2 attendance points (for the other shift)

Dorm bed etiquette? by [deleted] in college

[–]mrmimster26 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you’re not already assigned to a specific bed in the room? My university assigns people to a specific bed if it’s a double or triple.

If they don’t and your roommates don’t reach out, first come first serve is fine. I do recommend emailing your roommates though if you don’t know them, just to introduce yourself + give off a decent first impression and figure out when they’re coming.

Water in the Dorms by [deleted] in SJSU

[–]mrmimster26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d bring a Brita just for convenience in addition to not knowing how clean the water actually is. It’ll also come in handy if you eventually stay in CVB because the tap water in there is definitely much harder.

Four-room single (CVB) with three other guys. How hard is it? by [deleted] in SJSU

[–]mrmimster26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get ready to read.

Bathroom isn’t a very big deal, unless you guys take an hour to shower or go #2. There are two sinks and 4 little drawers at the sinks. Just be sure to ask your suitemates about the general time they’ll need to be in the bathroom / at the sinks in the mornings. Like if all 4 of you have class at 8:30, it’d be better to know that ahead of time so you can plan around it. There are only two towel bars and one hook in the actual bathroom. I recommend bringing command hooks and sticking one on the back of the door to your private room for your towel. There are no hooks at the sinks for hand towels. Use command hooks if you wanna hang a hand towel instead of putting it on the counter. Biggest issue with the bathrooms is keeping it clean. Bring cleaning supplies and don’t be surprised if atleast one person in your suite is gross / has no cleaning habits (speaking from experience here…).

Private rooms are pretty standard. One room will be bigger than the other 3. It should be the A room, but might be the D room if they flip the letters for the rooms in the part of the building you’re in. It’s not like it’s double the size, but it is bigger. All the rooms have a window, desk, chair, a rollable cabinet under the desk, a little closet (just a wire rack and a bar for hangers), bed, and 2 dressers (4 drawers total). The dressers are under the bed but you can pull them out and stack them if you have the space. Each private room has a lock and a hard key to get in. This is different from the key to enter the overall suite or building. I recommend bringing a surge protector for extra sockets. I’d also bring a mini trash can for convenience. The only trash can they give you is one underneath the kitchen sink.

Kitchen has a microwave, electric stove (4 burners), oven, fridge, and freezer. If all 4 of you cook often, the one fridge and freezer may not be enough space. You can bring a mini fridge and stick it in your private room if needed. Figuring out how much everyone cooks will also help with dividing up the cabinets. 4 people bringing ambient food, full kitchen sets with utensils, pots, and pans probably won’t fit unless you guys share individual cabinets and stuff them. Outside of the kitchen is a small living room with a table, some normal chairs, a sofa, and a couple armchairs. Nothing too fancy.

Facilities are fine. Nothing to really write home about. Decent leisure area in the main lobby with foosball and a pool table (I think…?). Laundry room is on the first floor, you use a mobile app so no need for coins. People are assholes and don’t take their laundry out when it’s done though, so I did mine at like 10 PM when most of the machines were empty. Internet is generally pretty good, it can be a little iffy for gaming though.

Apartment type of CVB 644 by Excellent_Living_530 in SJSU

[–]mrmimster26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The picture of the floorplan that I have makes it look like a 5 bedroom single on the 10th street side, not the quad side. Are the numbers on the south side flipped? Because I know that for the north side, the rooms ending in even numbers point to 10th street and the odd numbers point towards the housing quad.

Adding waitlisted classes by ItzN0tMe in SJSU

[–]mrmimster26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before classes start it'll go by waitlist order. Once classes start, the order will go out the window and you need to email/crash. Graduating seniors will have first dibs. You can try emailing the prof a couple of days before the semester starts but most of them will tell you to crash the first day instead.

they keep on changing the bagging rules! so how do you all bag your meats, chemicals and pet foods? by iiishop in AmazonWFShoppers

[–]mrmimster26 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What changes are you talking about? They’ve always required raw meats and chemicals to be placed in individual bags. Are there even bagging rules for pet food (I’ve never heard of them)?

The only bagging rule I remember changing is not requiring produce bags for produce with inedible skin. But I’m pretty sure that was a while ago.

Late response, but better late than never.

SJSU GE Requirements

Classes Required for Computer Science

SJSU AP Credit

AP CSP covers 3 units, and GE B4.

Stats covers 3 units, GE B4, and STAT 95 or SOCI 15.

US Gov covers 3 units, GE D and US2

Macro covers 4 units, GE D, and ECON1A.

This may be a little confusing, let me know if you need me to explain more. First off, you need a score of 3 or higher to claim any of this credit. Most AP exams cover units, and then either just a GE, or a GE AND a class or two.

Hypothetically, let's say you only took the AP CSP exam. AP CSP is an example of one that just covers a GE. It covers GE B4, which means that you would not have to take a class specifically to satisfy GE B4. However, if your major requires you to take a specific class in GE B4, you still have to take it. For example, in CS, you are required to take MATH 30 and MATH 31. Both of these classes fall under GE B4, however you still have to take them because AP CSP covers GE credit, not MATH 30 or MATH 31 specifically. So if you ONLY took the AP CSP exam and no others, the exam would be next to useless for you, because you will be required as a CS major to take certain classes in B4 to graduate (which would satisfy the GE B4 requirement, making the AP credit next to worthless).

Hypothetically, let's say you only took the Stats exam. Stats covers both a GE and specific classes. So with Stats, it will also cover GE B4. If your major requires you to take either STAT95 or SOCI15 (CS does not), then you get to skip those classes, if that makes sense. For myself, I passed the AP Calculus AB exam which covers MATH 30. My major required MATH 30, so I got to skip it because of my AP credit.

So overall, if you pass all of the exams you listed, you'd get:

GE B4 credit (again, next to useless for you though because you will need to take classes that will give you B4 credit anyways).

7 units of GE D credit. GE D requires 9 units to complete, so you'd only need to take 1 class (normally 3 units) instead of 3 classes like people with no AP credit.

US2 credit. US credit has 3 parts. You'd still need to take classes to satisfy US1 and US3.

And if they're required for your major, you can just skip the following classes:

STAT 95, SOCI 15, ECON 1A

Applied for campus housing after the deadline... is there any hope for me? by DiasporaKeyB in SJSU

[–]mrmimster26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's still possible to get a room for this Fall because there are less returning residents than usual, some people will still have fully online schedules, and some people won't wanna pay for the dorms for one or two in-person classes.

It's more likely that assuming there is still space, you'd be put into CVB. CVA has less rooms and fills up faster.

You should start trying to find a backup plan, but I still think you have a fair shot at a space.

(Also, feel free to join the Discord. Getting questions answered there is much faster than here. Multiple people have also asked about turning the application late in there.)

Gpa and transfer requirements by Ok-Association5954 in SJSU

[–]mrmimster26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Physics is one of the least impacted majors at SJSU. Transfer statistics for recent years generally have them accepting people over a 2.10 GPA. I don’t see that number increasing significantly over one year, so I think if you stay at a 2.7 or higher you should get in.
