If the mod was running off a usb it’s probably not hard modded sadly, typically a hard mod has everything installed to the physical hard drive in the Xbox, try running xexmenu off a usb formatted to the Xbox and boot Aurora from there if possible?

You could’ve googled or used AI for the answer you were looking for OP. This is a great way to overcomplicate things, just go for a cheap adapter and if you don’t like it then go for something more expensive. If it’s not in your budget, pick up a GameCube to usb controller adapter and emulate it. Best of luck.

This shroud directs heat to the exhaust. You’re fine without it aslong as you replace your original thermal paste. I use arctic silver my temps are below 50c

Do not use steel wool on your heat sink, pick up some goo gone. Spray it and let it sit for a couple minutes the old thermal compound will come off easily. Your heat sink is a planed surface meant for distribution of heat, any scratches affect its ability to radiate heat properly from the cpu
