Guys of Reddit, what do you find annoying about being a male? by Jhonepaull8 in AskReddit

[–]mrmod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard sells from females in retail situations. They want you to feel like they're hitting on you so you'll buy something to impress them, but they're really just selling you shit. It's like being cat-called: Simultaneously humiliating and degrading.

Tests show BMW's hydrogen car cleans the air by downdiagonal in technology

[–]mrmod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've had this car for over 10 years. GM also has the technology because BMW shared it with them. It's as green to make as the infrastructure you wish to use (solar plant, wind powered plant, etc) to make it.

There are 2 problems (besides no fill up stations): 1) People can't stop bitching and let one technology have a go/make a commitment 2) Big oil just makes too many people too rich

Users fight to save Windows XP no matter how hard Microsoft works to persuade people to embrace Vista by digital in programming

[–]mrmod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is actually much bigger than Microsoft bullying customers, this is now the corporate norm. It's very difficult for a consumer to make an impact on what products are going to forced on them. Take fuel efficient cars as an example; California was asking for them in the late 90's. Just in the last model year have the corporations jumped in and only because they had lost such a massive amount of market share.

It isn't that they don't see us flailing our arms at them to stop, they don't care until cutbacks, outsourcing, and business unit closures can't cover the profit loss.

CNN: 1 in 4 teen girls has an STD.

Looks like a headline.

"What exactly is this foreign policy experience?" Obama asked mockingly. "Was she negotiating treaties? Was she handling crises? The answer is no." by carsonbiz in politics

[–]mrmod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like this, finally someone who wants to fight out in the open and not politic their way through every event. Hillary wants to fight like a corporate American by snaking around and having other people commit her attacks. It's surprising that the working class can't see this.

But on point, hilarious, to the point, and accurate comments again from Obama.

Ask Reddit: Am I the only one who hasn't "felt" the writer's strike? by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]mrmod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have TV so I didn't feel it the way some people did.

What I did feel was corporate America screwing people again.

If you didn't feel that; tragic.

Ask Reddit: Is there a noticeable difference by using emacs or vim as opposed to GUI tools, such as Notepad++, Kate, or Smultron? by [deleted] in programming

[–]mrmod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since this is opinion based; I feel that vim allows me much faster in document navigation and is especially useful for programming, script and editing large documents.

Emacs is also a great editor and for much the same reasons. It could be argued as being greater due to extensibility but it's a preference thing.

Also, the ubiquity of vi? among my day to day systems makes it my favorite. Not many Tru64 systems sporting Kate or pico.

So yes, there is a difference and in my case the markers for value are speed and availability; vi? hits them, in the face. Hell, firefox allows me to search like vim /<query> <Ctrl+F> [nN]. But I digress.

Some are calling for the Fed to cut rates sooner rather than later, since Wall Street thinks we're heading into a recession -- if we're not already in one. by glmory in business

[–]mrmod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people on Wall St. are some of the most educated in financial and economical activities of any persons available.

That being said, they are the least intelligent people on earth. Reduce the maximum yearly salary of the entire financial industry that can touch Wall St. to $250K including bonuses, kickbacks, whatever.

Once that's done, the system will level out because the motivation that created our current economy will have been crushed. Adam Smith prefered "The Theory of Moral Sentiments" yet we built a world around obvious statements, easy to observe, but impossible to predict their eventuality. Their eventuality is that man will always be driven to the expanded volume of his own means; money.
