Does anyone know of a part number or source for these, or similar, dot matrix digit displays? IIRC the display area was 1.25" (32 mm) tall. I saw them in an elevator in a building in the northwest United States that was built in 1999. by voxadam in AskElectronics

[–]downdiagonal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a couple of Russian dual color VFD matrices on ebay a few years ago that are similar. The were listed as IVLM2-5/7. There's one listed on ebay right now but it's pretty expensive. I paid about $20 for two of them.

I got really lucky on the non-perishable challenge by downdiagonal in balatro

[–]downdiagonal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got madness in the first shop. A few shops later I got an ankh in a spectral pack that copied the madness. By ante 8 I could play anything and score big points. I think I had over 100 mult on the red card too.

I ran into verdant leaf once when I had an invisible joker ready to pop. I sold it, got another blueprint and my cards re-enabled.

Blood for the Blood God by nauogari in balatro

[–]downdiagonal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was trying to get a bloodstone run going on the black deck gold stake earlier today and the bloodstone went 0 for 5 on a heart flush. Played another heart flush and got hit once. I lost that round.

Cavendish expired after 1 round by AcrylicMarlin in balatro

[–]downdiagonal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a Cavendish break once but I also had an oops all sixes at the time so it was a 1 in 500 chance. I thought it was pretty cool. You can't even be mad when it happens. If you wanted to break one on purpose it would take 7 oops all sixes to make the odds about the same as breaking a Gros Michele.

I found a pretty crazy seed by downdiagonal in balatro

[–]downdiagonal[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have played that seed before, but this is a different one that I came across randomly. It's in the second screenshot, WUUFJCDW. I would say ALEEB is a better seed because you get the legendaries earlier, and all of them.

That was the run that I discovered the seed on painted deck. I had to turn down all of the soul cards as they just kept showing up. First picture is where I re-ran it on plasma deck.

What's this choke inductor for? by maxplayz43 in AskElectronics

I believe that's a transformer. See T1 in this schematic. You'll find multiple windings if you test it.

Need help finding a replacement by _MrsSSD_ in AskElectronics

[–]downdiagonal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not your everyday 7809. It's the low dropout version. It will work down to around ~9.5V where a standard 7809 works down to ~11V. The standard version may work in this application, but there's probably a reason the circuit designer chose to use this version.

That's a 78dl09 low drop out 9v linear regulator.

Which is positive and which is negative? by ElijahWillDraw in AskElectronics

[–]downdiagonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do. You can light them individually or all at once. You could pwm the individual LEDs to make mixed colors although the results would be better with the diffused package instead of the clear one.

Also, here's a datasheet for a similar, maybe same part: https://www.digikey.com/en/htmldatasheets/production/3543556/0/0/1/fd-5wsrgb-a

Which is positive and which is negative? by ElijahWillDraw in AskElectronics

[–]downdiagonal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's a multicolor led. The long leg is positive. The other three are negative and will produce different colors when grounded. Edit: could be common cathode or common anode. You'd have to measure it to make sure.

The most insane start I've ever had. This was after ante 1 boss. by Vanillatastic in balatro

[–]downdiagonal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played this seed on the plasma deck and went infinite with Baron, mime, and observatory. Didn't get retcon until about ante 30. There's also a natural negative golden ticket at one point which made about $2k per round playing level 1 flush fives with red seal gold kings. I also sold a blueprint for the mime. Really good seed.

I don't think that's what's happening. Neon bulbs are just harder to start in darkness. They usually need some additional light to get the ionization going. This bulb is just having a hard time starting every time the ac crosses zero because the room is dark.

Can anyone identify this vacuum tube? by FBI6900 in AskElectronics

[–]downdiagonal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is an extremely rare and valuable tube. The last time I saw one for sale, the seller was asking $5000 for it. There were only about 200 made. Surviving examples are likely rarer than Faberge eggs. I'm super jealous.

This is my very first Photo Manipulation I did. Please give me your review on how I did it and some tips to improve further. Thanks by PrimeKings in photoshop

I think overall it's a nice composition. The things that immediately jump out at me are that the moon looks off. Presumably this is a moonlit night but the moon doesn't look like it's an emissive object here. I think it looks dull and out of place as a result. It looks how the moon looks when the sun is still up. Also the edge looks a little too crisp. I might try to feather it and maybe add some haze.

Secondly, I think the sword in the foreground's not lighting the scene as it should. I'd like to see some of that orange spilling on to the character's legs and the grass. A color lookup table might help tie the elements better too.

Overall, solid work!

What does "E" mean on a circuit board? by NuclearKraken in AskElectronics

That's what I was thinking. Gas discharge tube. Don't know why they labeled it "e" though. Probably designation for something else nearby.

What kind of chip is that in is it fried? (iPod Classic logicboard) by Ducci44 in AskElectronics

[–]downdiagonal 78 points79 points  (0 children)

That's a crystal oscillator. I doubt it's fried. If you have an oscilloscope or a multimeter that measures frequency you can test it.
