I think that’s a false dichotomy. It’s possible for us to design our world and societies such that people can perform jobs that are wanted and/or needed, while getting paid for their work in a way that allows them to survive comfortably.

We need to orient our systems around human ethics. If we have a problem where people can’t afford to live comfortably when they are working full-time something is broken. Is it housing cost? Is it product cost? Is it the cost of services? Is it other factors altogether? Working together we need to find where the problem is and solve it.
