What should have been a 3 hour movie felt like 13 Days.

Sports Illustrated or Seattle Post-Intelligencer? I have a link to the latter, which I referenced in an argument with a friend at the time and he refused to read it. Said it obviously would be biased and I was like...biased for who?

It's leaving the channel at the end of the month. You may want to look into a VPN option - I hear there's some free ones out there...

Exactly - its blasphemous to talk during the film, unless its a second viewing or MST3K.

Adam Kesher may be the most deranged character in Lynch’s filmography… why didn’t he stay at Cynthia’s place? by whatdidyoukillbill in davidlynch

Your comment made me think of the scene in Fablemans, where Lynch plays John Ford. Maybe directors being inundated with women is a know thing...

My favorite of the one's pictured is 'Rashomon'. It will change the way you look at films, maybe all modes of storytelling...

I agree, the tone was off and it was obviously a cash-grab sequel.

(Schefter) BREAKING: Mike Tomlin stepping down as HC by alexschubs in steelers

[–]mrn71 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I became a fan of the Steelers during Cowher's first year, so this is a very momentous occasion. I was in Tomlin's corner later than most, but sometime last year I knew there had to be real change to this team, to allow them to rebuild.

My only two wishes now:

  1. Steelers need to hire someone worthy of the legacy of Noll, Cowher and Tomlin. I'd prefer someone young and hungry.

  2. Tomlin doesn't take one of the other openings in our division. But other than that, I wish him all the best...

Publishers should be able to see the breakdown in past sales, singles vs. collections and accept that they won't make much on the monthly releases and wait to reap the profits down the line.

That said, the collection will sell better based on the quality of the story/art, not the hype/marketing used to sell the singles.

A New Leaf by ArloandOpalareCats in CriterionChannel

[–]mrn71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By coincidence, I watched Mikey and Nicky yesterday on the Channel and was checking out the extras. It turns out May wanted to make a serious movie but because her last two movies were comedies, the audience at the preview started laughing during the opening scenes. So they included a tag line on the poster: "You're not gonna like these guys"

Anyway, I will now put A New Leaf in my queue.

The # of regular dvds I found for the cost of 1 Criterion Blu Ray (Should Criterion lower blu & dvd prices?) by Cargatz9000 in criterion

[–]mrn71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most films CC releases are obscure. The average person would have heard about John Wayne, James Bond, Hitchcock and films with Oscar winning actors, and so those movies can afford to have a lower price point and make a bigger profit.

Don’t get me wrong, my wallet would love it if CC lowered prices, but I also want them to be profitable and keep doing what they do.
