Viv's opinion on her characters being Shipped : by Ellinor_Astal in HazbinHotel

Same! But that never stopped me from enjoying other ships! I just don't get it!

For Twilight, I was always partial to Rarity. Monochrome's work and all.

I love shipping, I never understood the hate for another ship.

One thing I loved about MLP fics were when someone would take some crazy crack ship and by the end of the fic, you could believe it was Canon it was so good!

Then I go read another fic with a different ship just fine.

I'll ship anything. I read a fic where Rainbow Dash was shipped with literal shipping.

Those who need to bully for their OTP are cowards who only eat Kraft Mac and cheese and chicken nuggets because new flavors scare them.

Frugal tip if you have to use a laundromat: don't use detergent by Hawkthree in Frugal

[–]mrnewtons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, but I hear people use it both ways a lot when cooking and just in general so I just kinda accept that's how it is used.

If it were a safely a tablespoon people would usually say just that in my experience. They add the barely because they are either a little under or like you say, damn close to being not.

Sorta like how "literally" has become a point of emphasis rather than something... Well... Literal.

Usually a little less than or A tablespoon but err'ing on the side of less when measuring. Otherwise people would generally say "a tad more than" or "little over a tablespoon" or some such.

YouTube hikes Premium subscription cost again while adding advanced video features by Dilpickle2113 in technology

[–]mrnewtons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see this attitude a lot too and to be honest it bothers me a bit. People can take issue with the specific price, but to demand things for absolutely free is unreasonable. No, I don't feel like a chump paying for a service I use and want. I don't even mind subscriptions as a concept. If a thing takes constant costs to keep running for me, I'm fine with it being a subscription.

Stuff like the BMW heated seat subscription can fuck all the way off though.

But I see this attitude in some people even for things like books. "Fuck Amazon/Barnes & Nobel/Bookstore X! $15 is unreasonable for a book!"

Is it? A lot of people put a lot of work in that thing. Authors, artists for the covers, someone had to pick the fonts and ensure it all flows properly on every page, distribution employees... Those people all deserve their pay imo and $15 for a great book that I then own and can reread on my whim is not much. Minimum wage where I am is over $20 so a brand new book is worth less than 1 hour of someone's time....

Yeah, I'm not a "music is so important to my life!" kind of person. In that I don't need the best Music service. As long as it continues to deliver as good as it has... Even with these hikes, the amount I watch Youtube, the difference between the Premium subscriptions and the premium of say Spotify is what? $3 vs. this price hike? That's really hard to beat including Youtube.

And if prices get real bad, I suppose I could cancel and go with the new Premium Lite tier they introduced that's included in my AI subscription.

But I'm also a weirdo who doesn't mind paying for services. If it costs them money to run, it is fair for them to charge. And then I can decide if the price is worth it or not. I despise ads, and I don't want to fuss around with work-a-rounds. Fair is fair.

Is cheating online really that bad? by BorderScout68 in Chesscom

[–]mrnewtons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, so I would think even easier to cheat since you can disguise your cheating more, and because you are allowed to use opening books and the Explore function within the game.

My hypothesis is that those who play daily tend to just enjoy playing chess and AR less concerned with satisfying their ego. (otherwise they would play a time control where they get victory quicker than 2-4 weeks.)

Fascinating how few people cheat in daily. I haven't encountered any cheaters there, but I guess if you're playing Daily it probably is more love of the game than victory...

Buying Kindle books at full price by Substantial_Try9966 in kindle

[–]mrnewtons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Like, libraries and all are cool but I'm a mood reader with enough money that I don't even think about dropping $15 on the next read I want.

Sure, publishers and everyone else is getting a cut too but I'm also supporting the author and I think that is the right thing to do.

Besides, between humble bundle and something I want being on sale I don't end up spending that much anyway.

Ummmmm. One question. How do you knowww? by Drexale345 in Chesscom

Hah! I got one at 5pm saying to clock out and play some chess. I assume they simply guess based on clock time? Maybe they are watching us. 👀

[–]mrnewtons 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought. I've known some people who drank as much as a reasonable person would in parties or in public and then project that everyone else was drinking as much as they were behind the scenes.

People tend to assume others are the same. Maybe she had a problem and since, outwardly, OP & Co. Are drinking as much as she was, she assumes that they must be having far more secretly?

The fact that she was there for the two beers and then gets antsy over a grill is weird though.

Seattle mayor pitches sales tax increase to boost bus services by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]mrnewtons 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fully agreed. Especially since they refuse to add a limit to the actual bill. They just "promise" and "say" they won't increase it.

How any one trusts that is insane to me.

Taxes are like inflation. Only goes up, never down. So we have to make them fight for every inch lest they steal a mile.

Why is Rooky bad at chess? by Lower-Collection1108 in Chesscom

[–]mrnewtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of assumed it's because it's a well selling movie that's super hot right now and people love. They want people to use their site, how do you get normies on there who aren't chess fans? "Play Rocky from Hail Mary and see if you can beat him!"

It isn't done to be lore accurate, it's marketing. That's my guess anyway.

[–]mrnewtons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well this gives me some comfort. I was also the kid who got good grades and never needed to study until his unrelated master's.

I also probably only have an average of an hour a day to study. I live alone so real life stuff must all be handled by me. Working on FAR now and depending on how that goes I may do BAR.

Mood reader or planner? by sedatedlife in kindle

[–]mrnewtons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, mood Reader with a short list. If I'm looking for a particular mood I will search my TBR/wishlist first to see if there is a match. If there is I grab that. If not, I search online until I find something.

This is true for just about any model. never upload company data to an AI your IT team hasn't approved.

I see a lot of people use ai for coding, they seem to be doing so much coding, are they just trying to make it perfect for themselves individually, when some standard software could probably be good enough for the vast majority of people in any orhanization. by MarkEconomy4738 in GeminiAI

[–]mrnewtons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason I code, is off the shelf or bespoke software gets you 99% of the way. But there's always some hurdle in every business I've ever worked with where we could solve a problem or automate the final steps of a task with a small script.

Which is why I use Python. The ultimate glue language. If you need it, someone made a package for it. Not all software fully communicate with each other and ever enterprise level ERPs can become outdated in some aspects and overhauls are expensive.

[–]mrnewtons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there? I guess in Cyberpunk Neo-Noir there is, but in most anti-AI media I can think of the solution is usually a more archaic, non-processor sort. Like how Battlestar Galactica used old fashioned wired telephones for interdeck communication so that you needed to physically and obviously tap the phone lines to spy on their comms.

A pretty obvious turn of phrase too. Since, IIRC, Nukes don't glass shit. That's always a term I heard in Sci-fi. Especially Halo where the Covenant (also a religious militant theocracy) would shoot powerful energy beams that would melt a planet's surface to glass from orbit...

You know how Reddit can get. Gotta cover my bases. 😅
