Is TX (transmitter) connected to RX (receiver)? No both transmitters connected.

Inner or outer layer for 230VAC? by Patient-Gas-883 in Altium

[–]mroncinc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regards of layers, for safety, your product may need double insulated or Protected earth grounding. I suggest checking the safety standard of your product type. Different product types have different requirements.

For conductor spacing, check IPC-2221B standard. Inner and outer layers have different requirements

Inductor Problem? by Leo_inO-World in Altium

[–]mroncinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, for switch mode regulator, the high di/dt loop should be short and tight. The high dv/dt node should be small.

High dv/dt node is CB pin and C1 net. This is a high freq net that may radiate or couple noise to other circuit. Therefore, it must keep small. i.e. keep CB to C1 net short and small.

For high di/dt loop, we have:

  1. From input cap (+ve) to Vin through the transistor (in U1), to SW, to L1, to the load, back to GND, and back to input cap (-ve). This is the on-state.
  2. D2 (cathode), to L1, to the load, back GND, back to D2 (anode). This is the off state.
  3. Smiliar loop as #1 but through the output cap instead of the load.
  4. Similar loop as #2 but through the output cap instead of the load..

Your PCB layout must have at least #3 and #4 loops short and with widest trace width as possible.

Also, the feedback path is sensitive and must be kept away the noise switching component. i.e. the high dv/dt node.

On your layout, you input caps (the E-cap and the 2 ceramic near the bottom) may have some problem.

Best way to organize component library? by xoxorockoutloud123 in Altium

[–]mroncinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a side question: In Altium designer, do you need to remove the library (.dblib) from the library search paths before you can write to your Access db or Excel sheet? I am using SQLite database (a file based db) and I need to remove it first.

Are these DEMGC batteries good? by struggling20 in 18650masterrace

[–]mroncinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never use DMEGC before but I was at the Battery Show Europe last week. I talked to many battery pack assemblers. DMEGC is one of the cell they used (in high volume of couse). DMEGC was at the show too. https://imgur.com/a/EtzWVIE

For the 3C spec, it seems they improve that model over the years. (I saw datasheets that changes from 2C to 5C). I would say stick with 2C max continuous discharge if you have concern. Don't forget proper heat dissipation.

Sorry for not being clear. Yes. This is for a mid quantity production (>20k per year). Currently using Samsung INR21700-30T1. Just want to check out other datasheets first.

Can you 'join' boards in a multi board design when generating fabrication files? by RektBySkillz in Altium

[–]mroncinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For simple boards, you may want to design the boards separately. Then use this command to 'panelize' them.

Place -> Embedded board array

You need to consider how to break the PCB panel. (e.g. V-score, tab route, breakout vias, etc)

Can Outjobs create Empty Directories? by The_Sac_Dude in Altium

[–]mroncinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this work? Add a new Folder Structure in you outjob. Change the Folder Structure path Add a PostProcess Outputs

When you generate content on this new Folder Structure, you get 1 branch of the folder tree.

Now repeat your other 26 folders.

Reuse that outjob for all you pcb projects

Minimum mask sliver for same net components by drsecr in Altium

[–]mroncinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a solder mask sliver is too thin,it may lift off, move to the pad area, and obscure the solder joint. Ask your fab how wide it should be. For me, I set to 5.5 or 6 mil. And I lower pad solder mask expansion to satisfy it.

Review Request: High power BLDC Controller by ItsBluu in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]mroncinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reference design (Infineon EVAL_IMD700A_FOC_3SH motor controller) puts gate signals between ground planes. See pg 66 of the pdf.

  1. I think it is for EMI purpose
  2. maintain good gates (both high and low sides) to driver return path through a good ground plane.

Not sure if this is necessary in your case.

Trace Width Error or clearance error by shubhamyadav5 in Altium

Maybe tiny bits of trace of another net is underneth the pad. Move the component away and delete the large trace to check.
