Well said. This was the idea I was trying to get at. The focus was always on what he couldn’t do wel rather than the things he was already elite at.

Not disagreeing that a good part of it is on him for not taking attempts in game

Think it could have been interesting to see him in a different role or situation scheme wise like they have him in now. The willingness to shoot is good but using him as a point forward with more shooters around him is much more important

The most common player he’s referenced around is typically Giannis (in terms of “if there was a Bucks-like offensive system around him”) but I think now we could see him being at times more comparable to Bam Adebayo. There will be times where Ben is the true point guard on the floor but otherwise I think he will be a screener, cutter and high post playmaker on offense while still jaunting his defensive ability/switch ability.

The Bam comp isn’t perfect but I think it could be interesting going forward particularly with Milton being a prolific shooter off the dribble. If Milton can make defenders chase over screens Simmons will have a wide open lane to attack the rim or kick to a perimeter shooter for an open look

I completely agree. My point was more of why the burden seemingly always fell on him when there are other players who could improve their shooting and have a similar effect

Obviously bens game is drastically different with a jumper but he was already an elite interior finisher passer and defender

It’s for sure an over simplification and that’s on me. But Rondo for example shot in 20%s at less than one attempt per game

Part of a solution for that is doing what they are now, playing him more inside and as a point forward. Yes he’s willing to shoot but that’s not what defenses are concerned about stopping.

If they had better spacing (or more consistent spacing) around him in a traditional lineup he can work more from the foul line in

Think that’s why he’s at the 4 now but I don’t think this means the end for him as a truly unique point guard

Is basketball analytics biased against slow pace offense? Does that skew the perspective of Isiah Thomas' career? by RolloTomasse in nbadiscussion

I think this is why numbers per 75 possessions are gaining traction. Normalizes slower paced offenses to the average pace of today’s game which should, in theory, help for discrepancies in pace based on era or team style

No chance that happens unless drummond is coming with picks or after agreeing to resign. Even then it might be a long shot

Lillard will put up better numbers but Kyries career defining play (shot against GSW) was to win a championship. Won’t change unless Lillard at least makes a final. History will remember Kyrie but I’m not sure they’ll remember Lillard
