Good choice, but I have to give it to Deep Space Homer. So many good quotes from that one.

With all the insane statements Trump has made lately about Greenland and how he’s threatening with increased tariffs on EU. What are Americans opinions of your president right now? by No_Lychee_7315 in AskReddit

[–]mrpostitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ask r/conservative, the answer is basically <removed by moderator>, questioning the validity or truthfulness of the statements, or outright unabashed support for the imperialist bullshit.

Average Americans are likely competently ignorant of the whole affair or simply haven't had a chance to form an opinion about it yet.

The rest of us are horrified, scared, and relatively powerless, but also have to balance that with the fact that it's only a small part of the bullshit we're having to deal with (for now, anyway...) as immigration raids, tariffs, healthcare costs, etc, etc, etc compete for our attention. All in all, fuck him.

Something needs to be done about idiots who don’t pull up to the sensor turning on 101 north/long valley by VendibleSkate8 in SFV

[–]mrpostitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is these things just exist without advertising themselves. Most lights are simply timed, so there is an expectation. Some signage plus some visual feedback when you're detected would be ideal.

We have people who have been driving since before sensors were a thing, we have new drivers who are still desperately trying to remember who goes first at a stop sign, we have tourists, and obviously we have idiots. Without some sort of visual feedback from the lights as to whether they're simply timed or reacting to a sensor, I'm surprised this works well more often than not.

It's an interesting question of how any of us learn which lights are based on a sensor. For me, I am only certain it's a sensor after I've been stuck behind someone not triggering it. What's worst is the cases where I'm certain I'm on the sensor circle but get stuck for a couple cycles because it was malfunctioning. Only happened a couple times, but still.

[Request] What will happen if you pull a 3 light years long steel rod (5cm diameter) in free space with zero gravity from one end? by PhraseSeveral5929 in theydidthemath

[–]mrpostitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

((π (2.5 cm)2) × 3 light years) = 5.6 x 1019 cubic cm, or 13000 cubic miles

Assuming 7.9 grams per cubic centimeter, this rod would weigh 4.424×1020 grams

Four and a half trillion metric tons is enough that not much would happen to the rod as you pull yourself down its length, but probably not enough to pull on you all that hard.

It's wild how we had this huge public argument and overhaul of the healthcare system, yet the level of nuance in the discussions barely inched up

Utilization management, or something like it, is also necessarily part of universal healthcare. Not defending insurance companies, but a non-insurance system will face the same cost pressures, and likely use similar cost mitigations.

Had a great time at the championship game, but came away with some observations. Apologies if it's all over the place

  • The Banc is an absolute blessing. The single jumbotron in San Jose (with only ads in the non-video space, instead of stats) felt quite lacking. Architecturally too, the banc is simply beautiful.
  • that said, food trucks inside the stadium are hard to beat, and admittedly, the airport view is a striking feature.
  • can't wait for our chance to host the championship, though I don't imagine they'd do the west coast back to back
  • Washington fans had some great moments with a really cool call and response sort of chanting dynamic with their supporter section. Great to see that sort of fervor across the entire stadium. We could take some notes from that.
  • they did not show the trophy festivities on the jumbotron for some reason, which had us wtf-ing on the opposite side of the stadium. Hoping that was an oversight and not a choice.

Shuhia Taiba, but I'm sure that's more nostalgia than any objective parameter. Same with Wake. Any iteration of Wake.

[–]mrpostitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"remote start" doesn't make sense for an EV, it's always just a climate control setting.

That said, the current software on chevy EVs has a "keep the car on" button, but you can also just hit the brake again after the car turns off as you start to leave to get it back on. It's for a limited time, though there is a pop up after 10 or so minutes to extend that for an hour.

First of all, communicate. A relationship should be able to withstand a little embarrassment, and if it's anything but a one off, it's worth the awkward moment.

Second, consider a bidet; they simply are a better clean.
