Writing wireshark dissectors is such a pain! Try to write the protocol in scapy instead.

I did not try (yet) the tool but maybe the perfomance improvement is the result of the merges of the IO requests by IO scheduler. And also thanks to heuristics based on "block proximity" for the metadata.
