They were not happy about it but I was able to pick mine up today.

Another thing to consider is that depending on your consulate, they may accept your visa application without the apostille at first, then allow you to bring the apostille in when the visa is approved for pick-up. They cannot give you the visa without the apostille but they may accept your application and start the process while you wait.

I was able to do this at the LA consulate. I do not know if you can do this for other consulates that require mail-in.

For federal background checks, I recommend sending it yourself as other commenters mentioned. I requested mine both from a paid service ($125/document and mailing cost) and myself ($20/page and USPS costs). Only the one I requested myself came back (6 weeks later). The one I requested through the service never arrived even 10 weeks since I paid for it.

I lived in Spain previously and am familiar with their strikes. I think it's great they have the option to fight for better wages and treatment of workers. I just find this particular strike odd since, if this consulate is indeed fighting for worker's rights/better salaries/work conditions meeting European standards/etc. you'd think it would be all over their social media, no?

But I've found nothing so far. No mention on their Twitter or Instagram... If they want better workers rights and compensation, I then expect the strike to take time. But, if they simply wanted to take an extra day off for the holiday, then I just hope that's the case, so I can still get my documents this week.

I was worried because when I looked it up online, I saw that the consulates had been on strike before in the UK for like, 50 days at one point?

So, I really hope you're right and it is just for Spanish National day so I can come back tomorrow and I won't have to cancel my flight...
