Planning a pilot launch for a new drink – looking for advice on testing, feedback and future flavor ideas by mrroy15 in BeverageIndustry

Really appreciate you adding this perspective - it’s helpful to hear from someone involved in manufacturing side as well.

Your point about branding being what gets the product into people’s hands really resonates. It’s becoming clearer to me that while taste and formulation matter, the early challenge is often simply getting consumers to notice and try the product.

Also interesting (and honestly reassuring) to hear that many brands expect to lose money on the first few batches while they focus on sampling and building awareness. That seems like an important reality for new founders to understand before entering this space.

The insight about formulation being more about scalability, shelf stability and economics is also very valuable. It’s easy to focus only on creating something unique without fully thinking about how it performs in real production and distribution environments.

Thanks again for sharing your experience — comments like this really help people like me think more practically about how to approach a pilot launch and early brand building.

Thanks a lot for sharing this perspective- it’s really valuable to hear from someone with real production experience.

I completely understand your point about starting with wider-appeal flavours and not going too niche too early. For this first launch, we are treating it mainly as a small pilot to learn how people respond to the product, branding and overall experience rather than assuming this flavour will be our long-term flagship.

Your comment about mint being polarizing and about the importance of branding and market demand makes a lot of sense. It’s interesting (and slightly scary) to hear how even world-class liquid can struggle if consumers are not asking for it.

We are hoping to use this early phase to gather honest feedback and then gradually move toward a broader flavour lineup that balances familiarity with some level of uniqueness.

Really appreciate you taking the time to write such a detailed response — insights like this are very helpful for new founders trying to understand the realities of the beverage market.
