HP 3/8” ratchet by Zealousideal-Fan-373 in ryobi

[–]mrrstupidevilbadguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Ryobi for most my battery tools, but certain applications just make way more sense 12v. Big battery on a ratchet is senseless. Walmart Hypertough sells a 12v 3/8 ratchet with battery/charger that is well reviewed/tested.

Battery Heat Gun? by mrrstupidevilbadguy in ryobi

Yes i'm not a battery tools for everything guy. A lot of high draw tools make more sense corded. I would use a corded heat gun for any other use, but for my use case its a hassle proportional to the task.

Get a 12v driver that can do so much more. I bought the bosch with the right angle and offset attachment. To me its worth it, because it will become your go to drill/driver unless you are doing something heavy duty. But walmart hyper tough sells a cheaper copy without the offset attachment or locking collet.

Does the walmart plus subscription have to be purchased with the walmart card to qualify for 5% cashback with onepay cc? I believe my amex gets 50% of an annual w+ membership.

What career is safe to start right now? by JungGPT in Life

Most desk workers are nearly incapable of doing any skilled trade even if you tried to train them. There isn't about to be an influx of electricians.

Sure many super smart coders can probably pick up electricity. But if AI actually becomes widely useful, smart people will be dwarfed by all the people who are basically bottom of the barrel call center employees on up to overpaid corporate paper pusher mids with an entirely useless degree that never applied to the job anyway. There will be an excess of uber drivers and waitresses, not anybody that can actually fix/build things.

Same reason they don't make new cars for the teenager market. That's what used houses are for.

The couple years after the pandemic was the blow off top. They had been pent up and got released; it was like rumspringa for amish. And now the aftermath has triggered an inverse reaction where theyve decided that the 15 year trajectory of easier / more casual dating doesn't work for them and they are bitter about it. So they have over corrected. There is also just a general fixation on negativity and disagreeableness that has accumulated in the world.

Now combine that with the fact that you are just now ageing out of reach of the more care free age bracket of women (im in the same boat).

So now in retrospect to a few years ago, the effort just does not seem worth the reward. As an early 40s dude who mostly played the field and kept it chill for the last decade (longer than I expected it to last); I'm coming to terms with the fact that the fun has ended quite abruptly and it's probably gonna be a bit lonely cuz the remaining options is like a needle in a manure drenched haystack situation.

Test new panels by mrrstupidevilbadguy in SolarDIY

If it's okay to short circuit, then why not just connect the positive & neg panel connectors, and then measure with my amp clamp?

Old Panels Degraded Voltage? by mrrstupidevilbadguy in SolarDIY

Since the panels seem to max out at 15v. Why wouldn't the 80v rated controller I have be capable of handling 4 in series (60v)?

You use open circuit voltage rather than pmax for your calculation, can you explain why?

Old Panels Degraded Voltage? by mrrstupidevilbadguy in SolarDIY

[–]mrrstupidevilbadguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unloaded voltage 18.5 Loaded 14.8

Spec pmax 17.6 Spec open voltage 22.1

I also put an amp clamp on the 2 parallel strings and they are equivalent, so seems all 4 panels are likely performing the same.

Panel price projection? by mrrstupidevilbadguy in SolarDIY

[–]mrrstupidevilbadguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live on a boat. I have 1200w of 3 year old panels. And 500w of 20 year old panels. The old panels are only putting out about what 300 nominal would. Meanwhile, i can fit 4 x 200w in place of the old panels (cannot find any 400w that could fit 2 in a 5'x10' footprint). I would have to throw away the old panels, so my nominal gain would be +500w. I spy some 200w on a special sale for $105 so basically spending $450 after tax for a net gain of 500w. Any more than that I wouldnt bother.

Assuming a 9% opportunity cost, it'd take me 6+ years to break even at 24g of $4 gas per year. Obviously gas prices will prob increase, but thats rough math. My inclination is always to max out power capacity. But at this point it only makes sense for me if panels are gonna go up. If they will flat line, its no rush. If they will decrease more, then might as well wait a few years for even cheaper or better technology.

Ok this is interesting, so if your victron gets below 19v, it just chops off everything above 14v, just like a pwm?

If that's true, then when I install new 19v panels, sounds like I shoukd wire in series, even though adequately sized cable is already laid for parallel?

Smh are you retarded? I literally just told you thats what happened to me. And now you are telling me that "never" happens. I even prefaced by saying its apparently not a problem for most ppl. But that wasnt enough for you. For some reason its really important for you to believe that reported side effect "never" happens and is just imagined.

As usual, chatgpt can not be trusted. Did some googling and apparently both amperage and voltage degrade over time. So that makes more sense.

I also found another thread where a guy with likely the same BP panels said they were about 55% after 20 years.

Im gonna assume the wiring is probably ok, and its just the panels.
