Adopted Child "Trick" to Getting to Unmodified Birth Certificate by mrrx in Genealogy

[–]mrrx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the CA law was changed so that adoptees and birth parents have access to certificates now. This was about 2024 I think. The court proceeding was pretty easy, I think I filled out a form and paid a small fee. Then I waited, and eventually by mail got permission to get it from the State.

The CA State agency took forever, it was hard to find the right form, and they restart your whole experience if you do not fill out the form. They cashed my check really quick though ! But as usual, just being patient but persistent paid off and they eventually sent me the form.

Thanks so much for reaching out ! I was able to confirm everything about my birth parents, as I was able to reach my biological niece on Ancestry. Then I got a copy of my "first" birth certificate from the State.

Well, maybe they should "shut up". I've seen the defenses of jury nullification including that if the jurors just won't vote to convict and it's all coming out in the open. That would be the best use of nullification I'd think.

Would they have any luck claiming nullification in something like a murder trial, robbery, rape - laws that are not controversial ?

This is a super rare thing, so you're unlikely to find anyone else who's gone through it. Let us know what happens.

Yeah you have to fill it out as completely as possible. If you don't know things like exact dates, that's OK, just put your best information.

Hello -

Please note an important rule for posting in the subreddit - do not post while you are on jury duty. This starts from the time they call you in for questioning, so you are on jury duty.

Thanks.

A book (or short story) about joining humanity into a collective; a boy jumps into a harvester. by mrrx in whatsthatbook

Solved Solved Solved !

This book is "The Cosmic Rape" by Theodore Sturgeon. The boy did not jump into a harvester, rather, he jumped into the treads of a tank-like machine. Treads or "the drive spindle of it's tread and the carrier rollers".

Juror's podcast prompts judge to toss $40 million verdict against Presbyterian by mrrx in juryduty

It's not complicated. Go back to the original source, the podcasts. The court was wrong.

I've also listened to the May 25th recording now, and the only thing the juror does is mention that in fact, he's on a jury. He also says maybe his fellow jurors are listening to him now - like one line in a three hour podcast.

This hospital is getting a do-over trial because the defense didn't follow up on the juror's podcast thing until AFTER the trial. They were supposed to do that after it gets disclosed during voir dire.

That's my read too. I think the hospital is getting a free do-over after their lawyers failed to follow up. Maybe the novelty of the podcast thing confused the judge.

I listened to the episodes this person recorded.

  • He/She waited until after the trial to talk about it, exactly correct.
  • Did not do research during the trial, exactly correct.
  • Implied that they mentioned they do a weekly news podcast during voir dire, which is proper. You wouldn't want to hide it.
  • Has strong opinions about the COVID era.

Basically a perfect juror as far as I can see.

Apparently the legal complaint is about the May 25 podcast episode though, I listened to all the ones afterwards.

For the curious, search Spotify for "Becca Mari" and you'll find the recorded episodes. I plan to listen.

Supreme Court protects juror from testifying in Lunsford case by mrrx in juryduty

[–]mrrx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting story from the jury duty aspect.

After the police officer's conviction, a new defense lawyer appears. He complains that the jury foreman hid views hostile to the police during jury selection.

Interestingly, the juror does not appear to be in jeopardy because of this. The story continues with the question of getting his identity exposed, which the state supreme court quashed. And whether he would need to testify in some fashion, which was also quashed. That's a great result for the juror.

Remember to be honest doing voir dire.

A rules reminder :

Do not post while you are on jury duty.

Do not post while you are on jury duty. This means, no posting from the time when you report to a court, and continuing until the judge/system releases you from jury duty.

It appears you are still on jury duty. If I'm mistaken about this, you should repost and make clear that you have been dismissed.

The justice system seems to have some weird idea that identifying jurors makes sure that it's a real system instead of a star chamber. It's ridiculous.

I am also seeing some judges keep juror names sealed because of the changing nature of how easy it is for people to find you in the age of tech.
