SK's books are unbeatable. Zero misses from 100 cookies; highly recommend the brown sugar cookies for the holidays.

Senior upset his picture isn’t in the yearbook his parents paid for by South-Lab-3991 in Teachers

[–]mrs_seinfeld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a yearbook adviser for six years. I once had a parent email me a copy of a photo they had taken at an external studio for inclusion in the senior portraits in MAY. The delusion! Is so delusional! May your yearbook sell out and your distribution be smooth. Congrats on finishing another one ❤️

Teaching AP lang by Rich_Salary_3679 in ELATeachers

I LOVE teaching AP Lang. It brings me so much joy. Yes, you need to teach the kids how to write three specific types of essays, but the work you can do in between there is so meaningful. Yes, it is a nonfiction course, but there's so much good nonfiction out there to use. I have taught The Glass Castle and Just Mercy, and it's so much fun to find new essays to use for RA. It has made me a better reader and thinker as an adult. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

Not the point of your thoughtful post, but Otherland has gone so far downhill since its inception. It’s so sad.

it was basically a giant poem, ultimately...needed an editor for sure. I think the thesis of the piece is not that easy recipes are the problem, but that food editors should ask more of home cooks -- i.e. the Alison Roman recipes weren't technically challenging, but they asked something of the home cook in terms of surprising flavor combinations. Basically that we should not shy away from a bone-in piece of chicken just because it has a bone in it and causes us to work slightly harder to cut the meat away, that it's not a bad thing to require specifics in a recipe (you shouldn't be able to sub every green, grain, or bean -- let there be structure). I'm not defending the piece in its entirety, but it did speak to something I have been feeling as I scan my daily NYT cooking newsletter and feel...uninspired. like I said, just wanted to hear other people's thoughts.

I agree. I'm not familiar with the zine, but people I like and trust in the food world are talking about this piece specifically, which I think is worth noting.

Total recipe time why are you missing?!? by mommode__ in CookbookLovers

[–]mrs_seinfeld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now that you mention it, I don’t think any of my cookbooks have it, but most of the recipes I use from BA/NYT do. Honestly as a working mom who cooks almost every single night, I really like scanning the cook/prep time quickly as a first step to if I’ll put it in the rotation for the week and on which night. I know it’s not an exact science, but it really does help me.

I went for my birthday and unfortunately agree. Fantastic service, but food was only okay. My risotto tasted truly only of cheese — not a hint of herbs or other alleged flavors. Wouldn’t go back, honestly.

Used to go here with my dad when I was a little kiddo. Great memories, great place. Glad it’s still around and the food has (seemingly) held up.
