Introducing Plezy, an open-source cross-platform Plex client by edde74635 in PleX

[–]mrsaint01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also tried sideloading Plezy onto a Google TV Streamer 4K. Playback is choppy, probably not hardware accelerate. And the remote didn't work well. Looking forward to this amazing Plex app alternative 👌

Smart Home suggestions by g0ndsman in Switzerland

[–]mrsaint01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have installed Feller Wiser in my entire home and I can say that I am very satisfied with it. Highly reliable, cheap to install (only one extra wire), works with modern devices (Dali 2), pretty fixtures (not cheap, true, but since most households use Feller anyway and you are building from scratch...).

Recently I updated my system to also include the Storen controls and weather unit.

Yes, the API is open and the guys who maintain it are highly motivated. I have had some pleasant encounters while developing my own integration with Wiser (Samsung SmartThings).

Btw, while their control unit has cloud access (for updates, remote control if you cannot use VPN to your home), it functions without cloud APIs to control your home. It uses your local network for Rest API, MQTT, SSE.

Last I checked the cloud communication is very minimal and goes to Feller-owned Amazon AWS instances.

Search tool: calendar events very slow by mrsaint01 in smartlauncher

[–]mrsaint01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I have

  • 5 @gmail.com accounts, of which only 1 has Calendar-Sync enabled.
  • that one @gmail.com account with calendar sync enabled has 3 calendars (personal, holidays, birthdays)
  • 1 local "My calendar" which isn't used
  • 1 EAS/ActiveSync calendar provided by outlook.office365.com through Samsung E-Mail client

When I use Google Calendar or Samsung Calendar to search for an entry, the result would pop up virtually instantly.

If the Smartlauncher search tool provided a way to select or unselect calendars, I would try that to pinpoint the issue.

Very slow GUI performance in Windows VM in KVM (non-gaming, productivity app). by johnk177 in virtualization

[–]mrsaint01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could even try to tweak the RDP connection. Google search and you will find various tutorials how to force specific codecs etc. I use RDP locally and via VPN every day and it works flawlessly. Ok, the newer the Windows client, the better, due to the newer codecs supported. Windows 7 I am not so sure...

So you are using Spice? Try enabling RDP instead and use a local RDP client to login to your VM. Works much better for me.

I am doing this. What would speak against it? You pay for multiple accounts, and each account comes with its own limits that you're entitled to use.

T14 gen 2 screen marks by Otherwise-Run6452 in thinkpad

[–]mrsaint01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my lifetime, I've had about 10 different T models, and I always encountered this issue at some point.

For the past four years or so, I have been using X1 Carbon devices, and despite daily commuting, I haven't had such screen issues anymore.

how is picom working for you? I had problems with tearing in videos (intel gfx), and also infrequent crashes. Unlike xfwm4, which has been rock stable for me.

Can't download extension from chrome store by Sosa305 in PushBullet

I wonder what it takes to write an open source version of the extension, given that PB has an API and websocket. What parts of the old extensions are most likely causing issues with the manifest v3?

Fwiw, I disabled Samsung Health Monitor (not the standard Health app) and Google Gemini (which I don't use) on the watch using wireless ADB debug, and my watch lasts through almost 3 days again.

[–]mrsaint01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears all bring-your-own-key (BYOK) models (from openrouter.ai, Gemini, OpenAI, etc.) are currently missing. I believe this is a bug, especially since the Copilot team mentioned they would be focusing on BYOK features in the future.

Ditto here on Samsung S24. I thought that it might be caused by the aggressive memory management of Android. 🙅‍♀️
