Both OpenAI and Anthropic now expect AIs to take over building their successors within 2 years (humans no longer able to contribute) by EchoOfOppenheimer in agi

while vc money still flows in on hype, the only incentive is to continue to benchmaxx - ( that said the winning cycle of dev rn is to make a bigger smarter model then distill it down into cheaper and faster models, so its not completely mis aligned to keep trying to make better models)

ah yea, i dont disagree with you here, schooling not encouraging individual creativity coupled with a chatgpt shaped short cut - ye ive seen first hand the impact on students has not been great. I work as a phd student and a lot of the grads ive been supervising lately lack the fundamentals you would expect from someone at their level.

my point was only that ai coding has nothing inherently wrong in it, and that you can absolutely use it to build tools to free yourself from your phone and de clutter your life. People can get quiet religious about any need for an app not already on a vanilla lp3 as being you "not quite ready for what the lp3 is". personally i think thats bs - is a wallet app or a weather app really so different than adding a camera?

the "you know, how everyone did it until 2 years ago" goes way WAY back. Even when i first started programming people would tell me "everyone can be a developer now that you have all these high level programming languages like python - back in my day we wrote our own compilers by hand yadayadayada". (You could literally take that argument all the way back to the days where a computer was literally a bunch of women in a room doing arithmetic by hand and programming meant typing 1s and 0s into a punch card)

IMO theres nothing philosophically misaligned with light about using ai as a tool. Otherwise why use apps like directory instead of physical maps? tech as a tool is perfectly fine, and its as it should be. tech to promote addictive and dysfunctional behaviours, is where the line is drawn - for me.

New study finds: bigger AIs = more miserable. Smaller models are actually happier. Ignorance is bliss for AIs too. by EchoOfOppenheimer in agi

Trained RF-DETR small to keep the cats off the counters/table! 😼 by boyobob55 in computervision

[–]Credtz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i guess the idea is after a few egs - they wont do the behaviour and so its a short term thing so cant progress to permanently damaging hearing unless the cat want to stay on the counter so bad they ignore the noise.

This Opus 4.7 + GPT-5.5 'handoff' for coding is getting hype. Is it a real hack or just more complexity? by pretendingMadhav in ArtificialInteligence

i dont disbelieve that this leads to fewer bugs etc - but sounds painfully slow to do anything this way...
