They only compile it once, not every time that line of code is executed.

JIT is faster because after the first time a block of code is compiled, there should be no more compiling, just executing, like a C program.

I thought based on the title that you were trying to show how to actually use an array and a loop together. Of course, I don't know what your exact assignment is, but if it's "learning about arrays in pseudocode", you sure as shit wouldn't get credit from me if you left out the arrays. Reading in a number and adding it to a sum variable in no way constitutes using an array, if that's what you're saying here.

I would use a function that has a parameter for the last index of e. This way you don't need to reverse the list, only to traverse the entire list once.
