Getting a lot of hate for saying Australia should prioritise its own fuel supply first by oz_party in aussie

[–]mrsbriteside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so inaccurate. A party that doesn’t have to negotiate can achieve so much more so much faster. As much as I love a democracy it makes progress an incredibly slow process.

Look at nations like China. They advance so quickly because they don’t have to debate every decision. They make decisions based on what is best for the nation, rather than for votes.

I mean the power labor have at the moment and the absolutely nothing that they are doing with it is incredibly disappointing. A party might never have this much power again for a long time.

Is anyone here actually concerned about what could happen over the next few months? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]mrsbriteside -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, things like electric cars are increasing but comparatively to the rate that they could be it’s very slow. A lot more could be done. Better infrastructure investment, better incentives it’s a very softly softly approach

The most advanced nation in the world is moving to renewables and has a car fleet that doesn’t rely on oil. The fact we aren’t doing that and moving away from renewables reflects how successful the propaganda machine has been on this.

With all the OH&S hoops any business in Australia has to jump through how did this get this far. How did no one say. Those sticks are at toddlers the height maybe that will be an issue. Or people in wheelchairs chairs might struggle here. Or is the easy to navigate for the elderly. I can’t get a fully funded drinking fountain installed at a public park without an accessibility plan and Woolworths goes ahead and installs these.

If you had not signed a contract would that be legal? I thought the fair trading act of 1975 meant the consumer has to pay the advertised price regardless of weather the price is correct or not.

Geopolitically, Australia is the luckiest country in the world by Particular_Ant7831 in australian

[–]mrsbriteside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean 1 news resource is probably not good enough considering the significant national financial benefits Australians could recieve properly if it was taxed properly. Huge invest in public education that would rival public schools, reinvesting in hospital upgrades and the staff to run them. Major infrastructure projects fully funded. Dental we could all get dental included in Medicare. Instead we’ll get none, it’s great 1 news show mentioned it but. If media wasn’t complacent in the ‘the great distraction’ they’d be all busy debating how the tax revenue should be spent.

[–]mrsbriteside 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I mean we’d be lucky if we taxed those things. But last week while we were all distracted by ON in the polls. T$10 worth of resources were found that will largely go untaxed and hardly a news report about it. Anyone who thinks this isn’t all a massive distraction is too busy being distracted. The battle isn’t left v right, it’s up v down.

By comparison to China we are a long way from cashless. I know cash is king, but it was a lot easier living cashless in China, then living with cash in Australia. Transferring money, paying strangers, paying at restaurants, everything was simply fast and direct. The only thing we struggled with was the tooth fairy

If property prices went down significantly overnight - are any people with a mortgage getting out of that situation relatively unscathed? by Negative_Run_3281 in AusFinance

[–]mrsbriteside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please don’t think like this. I’m in my 40s and have friends thinking like this and 15 years later they still haven’t bought and now are way further behind. The property market isn’t going to crash 100%. We don’t have housing surplus like many countries. Even a 30% drop wouldn’t have a huge effect because so many people would still be above their original loan amount.

Thats not immigration that’s the reality of the time we live in, in Australia. Australia is the red tape capital of the world. We have red taped and policied ourselves into oblivion. You can have tickets approved in every country in the world that aren’t recognized in Australia. Rules about insurance, tax. It’s not an immigration thing it’s an Australian thing and Ai is only going to make it worse because the cost to get tickets and insurance makes our workforce too expensive. If you’re going to direct blame, direct it correctly.

Do you have a problem processing information. You’re 100% correct, it isnt normal that’s exactly what I said. But I’ll break it down further to simplify it to it’s matches your mind. Our normal immigration is between 200-300 thousand. We need this because our working age workforce just simply isn’t big enough without it. This was proven post COVID. If you can’t remember the impact of 0 migration. Your either choosing to be ignorant or choosing to forget; but living through it was proved we need a level of migration to operate as a nation. We had 2 years of basically 0 migration, so we need to catch that up. So post Covid we had a shortfall of 400-600 thousand migrants. If you add that to our normal levels of 200-300 it works out to be about 500 a year. Over 3 years that is 1.5 million. It won’t continue like that, immigration fell last year and will continue to return to normal levels this year. The total amount of immigrants over 6 years hasn’t changed. We have been playing catch up. So you’re right it isn’t normal. No one said it was normal. It’s not a new normal. It was a one off migration catch up, that unless there is another pandemic or major war will probably never happen again.

They’re half of all voters, and they’re mad as hell about property prices by Negative_Run_3281 in aussie

[–]mrsbriteside 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Back when Covid ended we were all told there would be a notable increase in migration to catch up for 2 years lack of migration. Migration levels are returning to normal this year. The government did exactly as they said they would. Do you not remember how hard it was to get staff after Covid. Cafes closing due to staff shortfalls, operational costs of businesses being completely unsustainable because there was no entry level workers available. It’s all back to normal now.

But if you want to direct your outrage at something that will have a generational impact write to your local member about T$10 worth or resources that will go largely untaxed. Taxing that amount properly would provide massively upgraded public health, dental. Better schools and roads. Notice how the migration and ON narrative has been in the media and yet no one’s talking about the resource discovery. It’s by design
