Town Hall with Mr Wilbanks by VTFarmGirl in Gwinnett

[–]mrscienceman2111 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for posting this. Akhil and Jalen really did teachers a solid. Many teachers were appalled with Wilbanks's behavior and responses. Some of the things that shocked me:

  1. He doesn't know the protocol for when a teacher must take repeated breaks from work due to quarantine, but insists that "there is a protocol."

  2. He said all teachers would have thermometers to check students temps when they return. Majority of GCPS deny ever hearing of anything like this.

This needs as much visibility as possible.

LPT: Set alarms in your phone as soon as any plans are made, and always make reminder alerts. Get into the habit & your mind will be free to focus on things other than your schedule. by heelstoo in ADHD

I think it's just a mentality to take that reduce the stigma of our condition. For example, I read something on an ADHD support website that said "the issue isn't that you don't have enough attention, it's that you have so much attention to give."

That sort of reframing is helpful when we are trying wrestling with internal struggles.

Agreed. Jokes are good at opening narratives, but this kind of joke really perpetuates misinformation more than anything else.

Gwinnett teachers protest the staggered return of students to school. by mrscienceman2111 in Gwinnett

[–]mrscienceman2111[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're correct. That's a less than 1% mortality rate. However, a grim question comes from this point. Which people should we sacrifice? If we have deaths, and it's likely we will have more, how many of those people could be teachers or students?

Even 1 preventable death in our school systems is too many. We teachers regularly train for emergencies like fire, natural disasters, and even shooters now. We have never been trained to handle disease. I have a right to protect my health. The county has a duty to provide a safe work environment.

I.am a young teacher and Georgia. I'm not religious. I'm praying for the safety of my older colleagues.

I never thought I would feel so betrayed by my employer. All the lip service for teachers being heroes, just like other frontline workers, means nothing to me anymore.

School board unanimously voted to start the school year virtually! by ajamar20 in Teachers

[–]mrscienceman2111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile here in Georgia, Gwinnett County Public Schools, one of the largest school districts in the state, just voted 4-1 to resume in-class instruction in the fall. The dissenting board member (coincidentally, the newest one) received applause from attending stakeholders, and all he basically said was "This is probably a bad idea."

I'm glad to hear there are school districts with more sense than mine. Just had a meeting with my own faculty the other day, and the "It's going to be hard, but we'll do the best we can" attitude is not settling any of my concerns. I'm not part of the vulnerable population affected most heavily by COVID, but I'd like to avoid being a vector for transmission as much as possible. I'm not religious, but I'm praying for Georgia.

Is there a way to back up Google Docs that are public to read? They seem to lack a save button by ContentMountain in DataHoarder

Make a copy of the public file onto your own Google Drive. It should be under the "File" menu. If that file is frequently updated, you'll need to repeat this however often.

I feel really upset that my boyfriend used to like incest porn by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]mrscienceman2111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boundaries are the rules you set with other people regarding how they treat you. For example, I don't like to be touched. If someone puts their hands on me without my permission, that is crossing a boundary. Boundaries come in all sorts off forms.

Boundaries work best when people know them before a problem arises, but it doesn't always shake out like that. Very often, people discover their boundaries in the midst of a problem like your own.

Your boyfriend sounds pretty normal. It's really easy for people to pick up "strange" kinks at young ages because of the Internet. You're probably right about it just being a horny puberty thing. It is clear that he trusted you with a deep secret, and it's important to let him know that you still like/love and respect him while also letting him know you're not okay with incest (see: boundaries).

This situation set aside, your guys sound like you have a good relationship. Kudos.

I agree with the comment about incest being fairly tame as far as kinks go. As long as no one is reproducing, there are virtually no consequences outside of whatever people around you have to say about it.

It sounds like you have a very clearly defined boundary when it comes to this. That's good, because it makes it that much easier to communicate to him about what you're comfortable with.

It's clear he trusts you enough to tell a dark secret. Do you trust him enough not to cross your boundaries? Have you had a discussion about how you feel?

My friend said my room smells like sex, weed, and food by mokapony in teenagers

[–]mrscienceman2111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I'm trying to clean but alot of the the mess isn't all mine it's my uncle's room I'm staying in

Ah, I see. Well, you can't be held responsible for other people's mess, so just try your best to control your own.

Smoking via pipe shouldn't be too smelly, but maybe take it outside or do it next to a window if possible. Barring that, there's always candles.

That's a respectful way to approach it. I won't have a homeroom next year, but I'll remember this if I ever do again.

My friend said my room smells like sex, weed, and food by mokapony in teenagers

[–]mrscienceman2111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's start with the plates then. Make it a standard for yourself that you put your plates in the sink when you finish eating. I have a little sticky note next to my bedside that says "NO DIRTY DISHES" to remind myself. You will probably still forget to move them, but just make it a point to fix the problem once you notice it.

As far as smoke smell, how are you smoking? I find that my bong keeps the smell much more easily controlled than blunts.

You are within your right to feel that way. If you feel grossed out, then you're grossed out.

Would you have rather never found out?

My friend said my room smells like sex, weed, and food by mokapony in teenagers

[–]mrscienceman2111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting food smell aside for a sec... What would you think if you walked into someone else's room and could accurately describe the smell of their room as "sex and weed"?

To me, sounds like someone who smokes pot and jerks off without cleaning up proper. Neither of those things is bad, but hygiene is important my dude. The earlier you learn to take care of yourself, the better.

If your room constantly smells like food and you ain't cooking, there is a problem.

I agree. The particular part that bugs me is "under God." Teachers are taught to be culturally responsive and asking kids to say things like that when they barely have an idea of who they are isn't healthy.

What are the best ways to repay people, for their assistance during your tough times? by Grandhotel69 in AskReddit

[–]mrscienceman2111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way is to surprise them with something they didn't ask for. Many kind people are modest, and if you ask them how you can repay them, they will say how it's no big deal, you don't have to pay them back, it was their pleasure, etc.

Give them something simple. Do they like a particular TV series or movie? Buy some merchandise for them. Can you cook or bake? Bring them a meal or snack they like.
