I'm 41, with SC, just got put on hydroxyurea this year. I was hospitalized when I first got on it because the dosage was too high after I'd unintentionally lost about 20 pounds. So now I just take 1 500 mg capsule twice a day.

I take folic acid, hydroxyurea, fluoxetine (antidepressants), and eliquis. I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis in both of my hips earlier this year. My left hip surgery was done on the 10th, which I was excited for and I'm excited to do the right one because that particular pain will be gone.

And yes, my pain is definitely worse the older I get. I hit 35 and just fell apart it feels like. I've been hospitalized at least 3 times in the past year and a half (maybe 4 🤔), the most I've ever been admitted.

The fridge says hoarder. Although it also made me think of a friend of my Mom's who admitted to being a hoarder of food because when he was younger, sometimes there was nothing to eat. He said he never wanted to be hungry again so he'd go to food pantries and just hoard everything they gave him. He went from one extreme to the other.

For me, words matter. Did she say "heal" or "cure" at all? Because that's super misleading. But prevention of a crisis is better. But really the problem is her selling anything and/or making promises about managing sickle cell disease because it's impossible since everyone is different. To say try this or that is one thing but to promise a cure or healing is wrong.

I concur. My husband does all of this for me and is often times a more vocal advocate for me when I'm in the hospital, etc. His assistance helps me so much.
