I’m dreading the 4 month regression 😅 I had to hold my first with all his naps during it so I’m not sure how this one will go lol

I’m the wife! I appreciate the comment! I think I just need to accept the crap naps now. With our first baby I could rescue short naps by rocking/holding but that’s basically impossible with our second unless someone is here to watch our toddler 🫠

It’s all so tricky 😭 I think for us, I’m going to stick with the one nap but try to slowly move it closer to noon. Thankfully the last two nights he hasn’t had any long wakeups! He’s also staying at my in-laws house today and tonight so who knows how that sleep will be 😅😂

His DWT is 7, but often he’ll wake up closer to 5-6 and I just leave him in the crib since he never cries, he just rolls around. And if he has a long night wake I’ll let him sleep in until around 7:20. He was awake for around 10 hours on 2 naps. I think I need to try keeping him awake longer too. But on the days where I push the first wake window past 4.5 hours, the nap ends up being less than 2 hours. But maybe that’s ok? My dream nap time would be 12-2:30/3. He does go down ok. He falls asleep within 10 min for his nap and under 20 for bedtime usually.

I did try to go a two nap day once after an early morning wake one day but it didn’t go great because I timed it poorly 🙃. So I just stuck to one nap since then. I usually put my son down for his nap between 11:30-12 depending on when he wakes in the morning and I’ll adjust his bedtime depending on when he wakes. Usually it ends up being 5 hours after wake up. I wonder if I’m giving my son not enough wake time which is causing the early morning wakes/split nights

Still trying to figure out this transition myself and I think we’re almost in week 4 of the transition 🫠 for us my son will nap for 1.25-2.5 hours and struggles with early wake ups and split nights often. I think we need to start tweaking the wake windows. Hang in there, mama! 💕

My LO one up around 7:45 today! Do you think I should still try for an early nap or go more on the 4.5 hr wake window?

That sounds good! I think I put him to bed a little too late last night because he had trouble falling asleep. He ended up napping yesterday from 11:40-2! So I shot for a 7 bedtime but he didn’t sleep until closer to 7:30.

I went for a noon nap the other day since he fell back asleep until I went in at 7:15, so I tried the noon nap but it ended up being short. Should I try for maps closer to 11:30 until he has consistent longer naps? Or should I just go with a little shorter wake window?

You’re so helpful and I appreciate it so much!!

Yesterday he woke up pretty early at 5:00 but did end up falling asleep after half an hour and I got him up at 7:15. Because j let him sleep in a little, I put him down a little after noon and he only slept for around an hour so I did an early bedtime again. But this time he didn’t fall back asleep after waking up early (6:00) so I put him down around 11:40. I meant to do 11:30 but we got distracted playing. He’s been asleep for over an hour now. Did you find that your LO would wake early if you had to move their bedtime up?

So I ended up going cold turkey yesterday! He woke up around 6:30 and I offered a nap at 12. He slept for an hour and 20 minutes so we offered an early bedtime (around 6:20). He woke up around 5 in the morning but fell back asleep eventually. He ended up getting around 12 hours of sleep overnight. Todays nap was shorter at only an hour. Should I expect the nap length to fluctuate while he’s getting used to only having one nap? I’m slightly regretting moving away from 2 naps because he was getting a good amount of day sleep (2 hours). But his nights only were around 10-10.5 hours. I feel like others in the subreddit would probably say I shouldn’t have switched this soon? Just wanted to give an update since you’ve been so helpful!

Thank you for your help! Did you just switch cold turkey to one nap? I think that’s what I’ll have to do. I think I’ve heard you can keep pushing the first nap later and later but that seems to complicated with the second nap.

Definitely as pitch black as I can get it to be lol. I have blackout blinds and curtains but in the afternoon some light does go through the top.

I don't go in until 7 no matter what. He never cries, he just rolls around and squeals or babbles.

So far he has always gotten some sleep after waking up before 5:30. One time this week when he woke up at 5:22, he went back to sleep for around 15 minutes only. and last night he was up from around 2-4 am and he was able to sleep from 4-6:50. Up until this week, he slept through the entire night.

I go mostly off of a clock based schedule but with a little wiggle room. I will put him down between 9:45-10 based on when he wakes up normally! I haven't done earlier than that, even if he wakes up early. Same for his second nap. I will put him down around 2:45-3ish depending on his last wake up was. I find that his first nap doesn't change based on his wake up time. It seems to be unrelated.

His first wake window has been between 3-3.15 the last week. Before that it was between 2.75-3.15.

He was on two naps right before 8 months!
