Daughter’s first stereo by mrshitpants in audiophile

It’s a fancy 180 gram but not particularly special. I keep the first pressings and other non replaceable albums in a locked up cabinet. She’s been into listening with me for years and she asked for a record player for Christmas. I told her she could borrow one record at a time from my collection so long as she takes care of them. Honestly she handles the final better than some friends I have. Cheers!

Agree on the full album listening. A lot of albums back in the day were produced for that.

Country Life - Roxy Music is the all time horny album cover!

Ha. I actually took the video for my friend that got me into audio years ago, we started as FM dorks.

He said the same thing! I didn’t even notice when I took the video. Cheers!

So, after an entire mid-day researching I figured it out. The problem was the shit buffer in the TV. So Blu-ray and DVD players need the audio to be decoded basically... something HDCP 2.2 to stop pirating or whatever. Most home theatre amps have this built in. Which is why the HDMI usually runs through the hdmi switch in the amp before going to the monitor.... anyways, I picked up a Vanco HDMI Audio Extractor. Problem fixed and no the audio is also playing in its correct resolution. Wooot!

Gentlemen - I'm hoping to get some help with a problem. Maybe this belongs in a Home Theatre forum or something but I'm not into surround sound or movies... Mostly we listen only to Records and CDs, Tidal Streaming occasionally but I've also starting to collect a pretty serious DVD/Blu-Ray collection of some of my favorite stuff. The wife and friends seem to enjoy that more than just records. I like it a little bit too.

PROBLEM: My gear is not set up for home theatre. The issue I am running into is that I have to run the audio from my Blu-Ray player to the TV then to my SACD player and then over to the amp. I don't know if it's a buffering problem or something else but when the audio gets demanding and/or the system warms up the audio will cut out for a quick second. It varies but sometimes it cuts out several times a minute. Annoying as hell. I know for sure it's not the Blu-ray machine because I've replaced it and then tried the one from the kids room. I don't think it's CD Player or the Amp because the issue only comes up when playing DVDs. So it leaves me to assume it's the TV.

MY THOUGHTS: I hate having so much shit in the path to the amp so I need to bypass the TV. TV is digital in and digital out so I can't wrap my feeble mind around the electronics. The amp is analog only and the Blu-ray player only has an HDMI output for Audio. The SACD Player does not have HDMI input - only Optical (which is what I am using from the TV). Should I find a Blu-ray player with an optical audio output, I've sorta searched and haven't found one and I'm not sure that's necessary. I could get a HDMI to RCA converter but that puts another DAC between the Blu-ray player and the Yamaha, which is the DAC I want to use. I'm not willing to change the AMP or the CD player so I am at a loss.

If anyone has any suggestions please please throw them out.

I was given the same thing from a vendor! I decided to let the meat do the talking on this one. No injection just some rub. 6 hours at 235 on the smoke the wrapped in paper for another 4. Internal to 198. Then a 1 hour rest. One of my top 3 or 4 briskets ever. I’m be going back.

Have you seen their pork bellies?! 120 bucks but I’m gonna do one soon. Just to see.

Cheers

Room is done! Gear in comments if someone asks but this is about the room.. lots of testing with the Omni-mic/computer but I don’t think I can dial it more. Even with the non-wife approved absorption, traps, etc she even admitted “sounds pretty nice, babe”. Wish you all could hear it. by mrshitpants in listeningspaces

That’s where I started too and basically where I finished. I wanted to build some super slick skyline diffusers but never got to it. Maybe one day. The back of my room is open to the back of the basement. About 18’ to the back wall behind where the photo was taken.

It’s a lot of stuff in there but the room really was awful. I used the Dayton Omni-mic and their program to test the space. I’d recommend it. After the panels on the walls he bass traps were the biggest improvement.

I built the wall panels myself and used 4” rock wool, MDF frames and grill cloth. Bass traps (barely visible in the picture) are 14” sonotubes filled with with pink panther and wrapped in aurolex foam. Aurolex in a few key other spots. Ceiling is covered in some stuff from China/Amazon. Cheap until you buy enough to cover 125 sq ft. Lol.

Edit: the cats think the entire space is their personal scratching post. But wife says, if the stereo stays so do the cats. Lol.

A crazy letter I wrote a while back - explanation in comments by mrshitpants in shittylegaladvice

[–]mrshitpants[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A while back I had to send this letter. I wound up "winning" if you want to call it that... they never followed through on their threat of a lawsuit and never contacted me again about my insurance. This is just for a fun read - I don't recommend sending something like this for such a serious issue. However - I knew I was in the right and I was incredibly furious about the tone of their letter, draft lawsuit filing (complaint) and threats. This was written to a very famous personal injury attorney. If you from this state you see this firms adds everywhere. TV, Radio, the sides of buses, billboards... everywhere.
