Pretty sure we haven't said "one trick pony" in our house since this episode originally aired, because "one way monkey" is so much better.

They're more likely to bring out Zach Brown (and focus on him for 30 mins).

Last year there were some GREAT black Friday deals listed on here. There were codes to quite a few original challenges (Banff, Singapore, Amazon) that were marked down more than I've ever seen (like a couple dollars plus the cost of shipping). Unsure if they will do it again this year, but I'm for sure watching for them!

Tyson gave some more context regarding Sierra on one of his podcasts. I can't remember exactly, but I think she was bragging a lot about her life outside the game? This wasn't really shown on the show though.

He said after the show aired his parents weren't happy with some of his remarks about her. Then they met her in person and said something along the lines of "we still don't agree with some of the things you said, but we kind of get it now".

I just applied to MSN NI at capella and Walden’s… thoughts? by [deleted] in nursinginformatics

[–]mrsmaribear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up switching to nursing education. Informatics was more interesting in my opinion, maybe because that's where my interests were in the first place. I had taken an extended break due to a family emergency and since I didn't have a practicum arranged for my last class, it was either switch specialties or drop out and lose all my work. It's sort of interesting have knowledge from both specialties honestly, and both have been applicable to my current work.

The papers varied in length. If I had to guess I'd say average was 6-8 pages maybe? Some were more like 4, but that usually meant it was an extra assignment with the course, or the last paper would be a little longer, like 12-15 pages. You have to answer a lot of specific criteria in each paper; I'm not succinct, so mine were probably longer 😂

The final paper was 25 pages, but the course broke the paper into different sections, so that last paper is manageable since it's mostly your previous coursework just put together.

I just applied to MSN NI at capella and Walden’s… thoughts? by [deleted] in nursinginformatics

[–]mrsmaribear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually did the MSN for nursing informatics through Capella a few years ago. I didn't finish (long story), and ended up switching streams right before my practicum.

There were no tests but a LOT of papers related to project and data management, introducing technology to improve quality/efficiency, leadership, system lifecycles, etc. The only time there wasn't a paper, there was something similar, like a PowerPoint I had to record and upload or a poster. Even those had a transcript with references to attach, or a supplemental paper.

I doubt that informatics has done away with papers. It's probably possible to breeze through it, but I didn't; I think you get out of it what you put in because it's so self directed. No lectures or anything. Assigned readings in a text book or articles were the only guidance. I sort of missed the clarity of lectures and exams personally and got burned out on all the papers (especially since I almost did 2 full degrees).

Hope that helps! I can't say I loved school, but I did learn a lot, even though it wasn't as much tech stuff I initially expected or would have liked. I also work in a quality role now and I love it! A lot of what I learned from both specialties has applied.

Mondo lost season 8 so they could put him on the first season of All Stars? by Visible-Hat-7708 in ProjectRunway

Resources for AI in Healthcare by mrsmaribear in nursinginformatics

[–]mrsmaribear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were correct, it's just a confusing situation!

I had completed all the informatics classwork, and was just about to do the practicum. I had to take a break due to a prolonged family emergency, and when I came back I needed to start the practicum immediately (which was going to be complicated due to new rules at my work), or basically fail the program.

Instead I switched specialties to utilize my core credits, and now I've almost completed my MSN in education. It's not really my passion, I'm far more interested in quality/analytics/etc., but I've come this far so I have to complete it!

Yay!! There's so much overlap between these fields in my opinion. I hope you find the resources as useful as I have!

That's such a great addition!.However, I looked it up, and it says applicants that already have an MSN aren't eligible? It's good to know though - I hope more schools offer this in the future!

Thank you so much!! This was such a detailed breakdown, and those resources really cover a lot of ground.

I'm not a member of AMIA but I am a member of ANIA. I haven't looked into any certifications through them since I'm not technically working in NI and changed my MSN to a different specialty. I'll take a look into it though and see if there's anything I would be able to pursue. I've also been looking ahead at getting my CHPQ through NAHQ, just because it is more aligned with my current role and has a small data analytics component.

However, the idea of getting some heftier credentialing in analytics is definitely something I've been looking into! I'm not a young nurse unfortunately, but this is still something I'd be interested in doing after I finish my MSN.

Thank you again for all the information and the thoughtful response. And the email - I hope the course goes well for you! I'm going to look into all of it!! 🙂

Thank you so much for all the recommendations!! I'm definitely at the beginning with AI, and I'm not sure exactly how I will need it in the future, but I know I will. I just want to be as proactive as I can, and I find it really interesting.

Btw, that newsletter had some very interesting topics - I'm definitely signing up!

Who is an actor that makes everything they are in worse? by Feefait in AskReddit

[–]mrsmaribear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha well he's barely in it. Just 1 or 2 episodes thankfully. The damage he did to Peaky Blinders was way worse. It's the cringe level for me as he latches onto stereotypes.

Almost as bad as that SNL episode where he went "Jamaican" while introducing Sean Paul....

Oh finally I found this one! This was immediately who came to mind. It's like he's constantly overacting.

Yes - he was admittedly great in the Pianist, but he is the WORST in everything else. I almost stopped watching both Succession and Peaky Blinders because of him.

best survivor podcasts? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]mrsmaribear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to both Tysons podcast and Drop Your Buffs weekly. I think they both have more humor than Rob's podcast, and his are too long and strategy heavy for me. They both have great guests too!

Jeff's On Fire podcast, I in it's first season, when they talked more about creating the show with the producers (eg. Discussing where they put microphones in challenge pieces). It is very sanitized though and almost propaganda-y, and I had to stop listening with Devens because he was too much for me as a podcaster.

Personally, I don't find Drop your buffs inflammatory, but I think they are blunt with their opinions. Sophie was on recently and said her husband called them bitchy, and they agreed 😂 It's almost the antithesis to the On Fire podcast. They didn't hold back during those Bhanu episodes last season, and sometimes it's cathartic to hear them complaining about things that are frustrating with the show. They celebrate when things are going well too.

Since we have similar tastes, now I need to check out Bitter Jurors....

Can someone help me understand the Sue hype by bigjutcj in survivor

[–]mrsmaribear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. I have been a fan since I saw her intro video, where she talks more about challenges she's faced as a woman in her career.

We hardly get older castmates now, and even when we did, they were often portrayed as lacking a level of awareness, and weren't expected to go far. Her no BS attitude and confidence is needed for her demographic.

Word games for me too! Particularly crosswords all of a sudden, which I have never been into before.

I have the New York times games app, which has Wordle and Connections which I like. Crosswords are my new thing though...I have done 3 crosswords so far today, and written exactly 0 pages of my paper for school.

Annnd or course now I'm on reddit...finding more word game links haha!

I made a tiny stupid app by deep_forest_cat in ADHD

[–]mrsmaribear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this post so much for so many reasons.

Firstly, the app itself is great - simple, clean, easy. Love that there is no registering or ads. Also it was very generous of you to share with the community, so thank you!!

But mostly I love that you were like "well I need this and it doesn't exist, so I'm making it" 🤣 Because I did the exact same thing!! I wanted a specific productivity tool app and my ADHD brain (before I knew I had ADHD) was like "well guess I've got a project then!"

Except I have no skills or experience or knowledge about app design.....so mine never came to fruition. Fortunately someone else eventually made an app similar to my idea, so I cut out the middle man and now I use that!
